Ohio High School Athletic Association
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for junior and senior high schools in the state of Ohio. The OHSAA governs eligibility of student athletes, resolves disputes, organizes levels of competition by divisional separation of schools according to attendance population, and conducts state championship competitions in all the OHSAA-sanctioned sports. Membership There are approximately 820 member high schools and 850 more schools in the 7th-8th grade division of the OHSAA. Most public and private high schools in Ohio belong to the OHSAA. Structure Districts The Association is divided into six districts, each with its own District Athletic Board, including the Central District, East District, Northeast District, Northwest District, Southeast District, and Southwest District. John Hay High School
John Hay High School — also known as the John Hay Campus — is a public high school located in Cleveland, Ohio. John Hay is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, with grade levels including 9th through 12th. The neoclassical school was designed by Cleveland Schools architect George Hopkinson, and was built in 1929. John Hay had undergone a complete renovation in July 2003 and opened back up in Fall 2006 with more than of learning space. The school is located in Cleveland's centrally located University Circle district, near Case Western Reserve University. South High School (Cleveland, Ohio)
South High School was a public high school located in Cleveland, Ohio in the historic Slavic Village neighborhood. It was part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Opened in 1894, it was the second high school established in the city. Their nickname was the Flyers. In June 2010 South High was closed by the 2010 Academic Transformation Plan that was issued by the Cleveland Public School System. Among the school's notable students was Hank Ruszkowski, who went on to play catcher for the Cleveland Indians baseball team. Saint Ignatius High School is a private Roman Catholic, Jesuit high school under the Diocese of Cleveland, for young men, located in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. History Founded in 1886 by a German Jesuit on the invitation of Bishop Richard Gilmour, the school was originally a six-year secondary school based on the German Gymnasium that was to be attended after the completion of six years of grammar school. Separate four-year high school and college programs were formed in 1902, with the college changing its name to John Carroll University in 1923 and moving out of the Cleveland location to neighboring University Heights, Ohio in 1935. The words and music of St. Ignatius' alma mater were composed by the school's band director, Jack T. Hearns Sr., in August 1937.
