Semora is an unincorporated community in Caswell County, North Carolina, United States. It lies just northwest of Hyco Lake and has some presence in Person County. Semora is home to one of the oldest churches in North Carolina, the Red House Presbyterian Church. Neighboring North Carolina communities and municipalities include: Yanceyville, Milton, Roxboro, Leasburg, and Blanch. Alton, Virginia is a neighbor to the north. The population was 1,716 at the 2010 census. Hyco Lake is a reservoir in Person and Caswell counties, North Carolina. It is the area's main destination for fishing, boating, water skiing, wake boarding, and recreation and is the larger of Person County's two lakes, the other being Mayo Lake. Wildwood, also known as the Monroe Long House and Taylor Long Homeplace, is a historic home located near Semora, Caswell County, North Carolina. It was built in 1893, and is a two-story, frame "T"-shaped I-house. It has a two-story rear service wing. It sits on a brick foundation and is sheathed in weatherboard. Leasburg is a former town and the former county seat of Caswell County, North Carolina, United States. The community has a partial presence in Person County. The population was 1,662 at the 2010 census. It was named in honor of longtime resident William Lea and is located along US 158 and NC 119 near Hyco Lake. Leasburg is also the name of a Caswell County township. History When Caswell County was created in 1777, the area that would become Leasburg was named as the county seat; however, a county courthouse was not built on the site until 1784, after the American Revolutionary War. Milton, North Carolina
Milton is a town in Caswell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 166 at the 2010 census. It is adjacent to the Virginia International Raceway, just across the state line in Virginia. The town's name was derived from its beginnings as Mill Town. A mill was established prior to the incorporation of the town. History Woodside, a historic plantation home, is located southeast of town along Highway 57. It was the home of Caleb Hazard and Mary Dodson Richmond during the mid-19th century. Yanceyville, North Carolina
Yanceyville is a town in and the county seat of Caswell County, North Carolina, United States. Located in the Piedmont Triad region of the state, the town had a population of 1,937 at the 2020 census. The settlement was founded in 1792 and was later named Yanceyville in honor of U.S. Congressman Bartlett Yancey, Jr., when chartered as an incorporated town in 1833.
