Seminole-Wekiva Trail
The Seminole-Wekiva Trail is a paved multi-use trail in Seminole County, Florida. It stretches almost 14 miles. A section of it is part of the Florida National Scenic Trail. It is built on the former Orange Belt Railway. It connects with the Cross Seminole Trail.It offers opportunity for hikers, cyclists, dog walkers, runners, hikers and inline skaters. Extensions to the trail are proposed. Seminole County, Florida
Seminole County (, ) is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 470,856. Its county seat and largest city is Sanford. Seminole County is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. History On July 21, 1821, two counties formed Florida: Escambia to the west and St. Johns to the east. In 1824, the area to the south of St. Johns County was designated Mosquito County, with its seat at Enterprise. The county's name was changed to Orange County in 1845 when Florida became a state, and over the next 70 years several other counties were created. Seminole County was one of the last to split. Seminole County was created on April 25, 1913, out of the northern portion of Orange County by the Florida Legislature. The Florida Trail is one of eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States. The Orange Belt Railway (later known as the Sanford & St. Petersburg Railroad) was a narrow gauge railroad established in 1885 by Russian exile Peter Demens in Florida. Cross Seminole Trail
The Cross Seminole Trail is a pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian trail in Seminole County, Florida just north of Orlando. The first segment opened in 2002. The current route begins at the intersection of Aloma and Howell Branch where it meets the Cady Way Trail in Winter Park through Oviedo and Winter Springs and stretches into Lake Mary.
