Sembawang Public Library
Sembawang Public Library is a public library located in Sun Plaza shopping mall at Sembawang, Singapore. It was officially opened on 11 August 2000 by K. Shanmugam, then Minister of Parliament for Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (Chong Pang). The library relocated to Level 5 of Sun Plaza Shopping Mall, and was reopened on 5 November 2014 by Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Transport. The library occupies the entire fifth storey with a floor area of 1,607 square metres. It serves residents in the North West areas of Lim Chu Kang, Mandai, Sembawang, Simpang, Sungei Kadut, Woodlands and Yishun, and has a wide-ranging collection size of 150,000 for users of all age groups. Sembawang Bus Interchange
Sembawang Bus Interchange is a bus interchange located in Sembawang, Singapore. Opened on 20 November 2005, it provides hassle-free transfer to the nearby Sembawang MRT station. This is one of the interchanges in a residential estate to not have any feeder services. History Before the opening of Sembawang Bus Interchange, various bus services terminated at scattered parts of Sembawang town. These include Admiralty Road West Bus Terminal for Service 980, Sembawang Road End Bus Terminal (near Sembawang Park) for Service 167 and the pair of bus stops outside Sembawang MRT station for Service 981. When the bus interchange opened, these bus services, along with Service 859, which operated from Yishun Bus Interchange, were amended to terminate at the newly opened bus interchange. Sembawang MRT Station
Sembawang MRT station is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North-South line (NSL). Located in Sembawang, Singapore along Sembawang Road, the station is close to the Sun Plaza shopping centre and Sembawang Bus Interchange. The station is operated by SMRT Trains. Originally planned to be built later than the other stations of the Woodlands extension, the station's construction was brought forward when plans were revised in November 1992. Completed along with the other Woodlands extension stations on 10 February 1996, Sembawang station has the most number of bicycle stands for cyclists working at Sembawang Shipyard. Yishun
Yishun, formerly known as Nee Soon, is a residential town located in the northeastern corner of the North Region of Singapore, bordering Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Mandai to the west, the Central Water Catchment to its southwest, Ang Mo Kio to its south, as well as Seletar and Sengkang to its east and southeast respectively. Sungei Kadut
Sungei Kadut is an industrial estate and planning area located in the North Region of Singapore. It is bounded by Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang to the south, Mandai to the east, as well as Lim Chu Kang and the Western Water Catchment to the west. Its northern boundary is defined by the Straits of Johor. Etymology and history In the Malay language, ''Sungei'' refers to river and ''Kadut'' refers to sack cloth. In the 1900s, around Sungei Kadut is a mangrove swamp that stretches to the now Kranji Reservoir. During World War II, Sungei Kadut was one of the first sites where the Japanese soldiers entered Singapore. It was later developed into an industrial site. Sun Plaza () is a mixed used residential and commercial development located along Sembawang Drive in the heart of Sembawang, Singapore, between Sembawang MRT station and Sembawang Bus Interchange. It is one of the two shopping malls in Sembawang, serving the needs of the local residents. History Sun Plaza was developed as a joint venture between Koh Brothers and Heeton Holdings and was completed in November 1999. Like other suburban malls at that time, it had an Eng Wah cinema, an NTUC FairPrice supermarket, the Sembawang Public Library, the local post office, a Kopitiam food court and 93 specialty shops. Simpang, is a planning area located in the North Region of Singapore. The word ''Simpang'' means junction or intersection in Malay.
