Semana Nautica 15K
The Semana Nautica 15K is held annually on July 4 in Santa Barbara, California and is one of the oldest road races in the country. The 15K is one of the events of the Semana Nautica sports festival, first held in 1933. The annual 15K race dates back to 1955, initially as a men-only competition. It hosted the American men's national championship race in 1965 and again 1976. A women's section was established in 1971. Former American record holder Gary Tuttle holds the most wins at the competition with six during the period from 1968 to 1982. Three women have won the race on three occasions. Marathon world best holder Jacqueline Hansen had three straight wins from 1973 to 1975. Ruth Vomund (wife of Gary Tuttle) had three wins in the 1990s, and Californian road runner Debra Sharp amassed three victories from 1986 to 1997. ''Semana'' (Spanish: ''Week'') is a weekly magazine in Colombia. History ''Semana'' was founded in 1946 by Alberto Lleras Camargo (who would become president of Colombia in 1958) and that folded in 1961. It was relaunched by journalist Felipe López Caballero in 1983. Development , the person who restarted the magazine, took two earlier Colombian magazines as models. One was Camargo's ''Semana''; the other was '' :es:Alternativa'', a left-wing weekly published by Enrique Santos and Gabriel García Márquez. The foreign magazines that he strove to imitate were ''Time'' and ''Newsweek''. Gary Tuttle
Gary Tuttle (born October 12, 1947) is an American long distance runner and local politician from Ventura, California. Over a lengthy career, he won two NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set three American records, ran for the USA team at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, won the Bay to Breakers race in 1974 and placed second in the Boston Marathon in 1985. Running success Tuttle was the son of Ventura High School Basketball coach Bob Tuttle (for whom the gymnasium at that high school is named), but went to cross-town rival Buena High School, playing traditional sports basketball and baseball. Jacqueline Hansen
Jacqueline Hansen (born November 20, 1948) is a former long-distance runner from the United States who is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations as having set a world best in the marathon on two occasions. Biography Hansen set a world best mark on December 1, 1974, with a 2:43:55 performance at the Western Hemisphere Marathon in Culver City, California, then recaptured it from Christa Vahlensieck of West Germany on October 12, 1975, with 2:38:19 at the Nike OTC Marathon in Eugene, Oregon. With these two performances, she was ranked first in women's marathon for 1974 and 1975. Hansen won 12 of her first 15 marathons. Among these victories, she won the prestigious Boston Marathon in 1973, the Honolulu Marathon in 1975, and the Avenue of the Giants Marathon in 1976. Linda Somers-Smith
Linda Somers-Smith (born May 7, 1961, in Bitburg Air Force Base, Rhineland-Palatinate) is an American long-distance runner who is a two-time United States national champion in the marathon. Somers competed in the marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She also won the 1992 Chicago Marathon (2:37:41) and the 1993 California International Marathon (2:34:11). Somers is notable as she is one of the very few athletes who has continued running at the elite level since she turned Pro in 1984 into the transition to Masters athlete. Ron Larrieu
Gilbert Ronald Larrieu (May 23, 1937 – June 1, 2020), known as Ron Larrieu, was an American long-distance runner. He competed in the men's 10,000 metres at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He was the older brother of American five-time Olympian Francie Larrieu. Ron ran for Palo Alto High School, winning the 1956 CIF California State Meet in the mile in 4:20.1. He was ranked #3 in the country that year. Earlier in the season he broke the 2 mile high school record that had stood for 31 years.
