Selkirk Subdivision
The Selkirk Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New York. The line runs from Selkirk northwest to Amsterdam along a former New York Central Railroad line. At its southeast end, at Selkirk Yard, the Selkirk Subdivision becomes the Castleton Subdivision. Its northwest end is at the east end of the Mohawk Subdivision, and it junctions the Carman Subdivision at Rotterdam and the Hudson Subdivision at Hoffmans. Amtrak's ''Empire Service'', ''Lake Shore Limited'', and ''Maple Leaf'' operate over the Selkirk Subdivision northwest of Hoffmans. History The oldest piece of the Selkirk Subdivision is that northwest of Hoffmans, opened in 1836 by the Utica and Schenectady Railroad. Maple Leaf (Amtrak)
The ''Maple Leaf'' is an international passenger train service operated by Amtrak and Via Rail between Pennsylvania Station in New York City and Union Station in Toronto via the Empire Corridor. Daily service is offered in both directions; the trip takes approximately 12 hours, including two hours for U.S. or Canadian customs and immigration inspection at either Niagara Falls, New York, or Niagara Falls, Ontario. Although the train uses Amtrak rolling stock exclusively, the train is operated by Via Rail crews while in Canada and by Amtrak crews in the United States. Service began in 1981. History Amtrak and Via Rail introduced the ''Maple Leaf'' along the Hudson River and Erie Canal on April 26, 1981. Conrail
Conrail , formally the Consolidated Rail Corporation, was the primary Class I railroad in the Northeastern United States between 1976 and 1999. The trade name Conrail is a portmanteau based on the company's legal name. It continues to do business as an asset management and network services provider in three Shared Assets Areas that were excluded from the division of its operations during its acquisition by CSX Corporation and the Norfolk Southern Railway. The federal government created Conrail to take over the potentially-profitable lines of multiple bankrupt carriers, including the Penn Central Transportation Company and Erie Lackawanna Railway. After railroad regulations were lifted by the 4R Act and the Staggers Act, Conrail began to turn a profit in the 1980s and was privatized in 1987. The West Shore Railroad was the final name of a railroad that ran from Weehawken, New Jersey, on the west bank of the Hudson River opposite New York City, north to Albany, New York, and then west to Buffalo. It was organized as a competitor to the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad, but was soon taken over by that company. History The first part of the line was built as the Saratoga and Hudson River Railroad, incorporated April 16, 1864 and opened in spring 1866. Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction was a census-designated place (CDP) in Schenectady County, New York, United States. The population was 918 at the 2000 census. The area was not delineated as a CDP for the 2010 census. The CDP was in the town of Rotterdam and took its name from two hamlets in the town. Geography The Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction CDP was located at (42.878941, -74.058756). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP had a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2), of which 1.4 square miles (3.5 km2) was land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km2), or 10.60%, was water. Fullers, New York
Fullers is a hamlet in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York, United States. The hamlet lies along U.S. Route 20 (Western Turnpike). History Fullers owes its origins, name, and early growth to the Fuller family. Major John Fuller of the New York State Militia owned a homestead and tavern here, and the station of the West Shore Railroad, along with the post office, were called Fuller's Station in his honor. His son, Aaron Fuller, Guilderland town supervisor and New York State Assemblyman, is credited with using his great influence and effort on growing the hamlet. Fuller was the only Democrat elected as town supervisor for over a century. In 1799, the Great Western Turnpike was built, connecting Albany with the western frontier and in 1882, the West Shore Railroad would build its tracks crossing the turnpike on its way from Ravena and Voorheesville to Schenectady.
