Self Portrait (Loma Prieta Album)
''Self Portrait'' is the fifth studio album by the American hardcore punk band Loma Prieta. The Jack Shirley-produced album was released on CD, cassette and digital platforms by Deathwish Inc. on October 2, 2015, followed by a vinyl release on November 13 also by Deathwish. In a press release, ''Self Portrait'' was described as featuring "unorthodox melodies amid a tangle of pensive, despondent vocals" inspired by the California hardcore bands Funeral Diner and Mohinder, among others. Loma Prieta promoted ''Self Portrait'' with a 7" single of the opening track "Love" backed with the exclusive B-side "Trilogy 0 (Debris)" released on July 24, 2015, by Deathwish. The band released a music video for "Love" on September 9, 2015, directed by Kyle Camarillo. Loma Prieta (band)
Loma Prieta (translates to "Dark Hill") is an American hardcore punk band that formed in 2005. The group is based in San Francisco, California and derived their name from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Most of the group's early material was released on their own record label named Discos Huelga. Loma Prieta has toured the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Japan. They share members with Punch. Their often dark and emotionally charged music blends a range of styles, most prominently screamo and powerviolence. In June 2011, Loma Prieta recorded music for their fourth studio album with Jack Shirley. Their signing to Deathwish Inc. was announced in October 2011, and released their fourth studio album, titled '' I.V.'', through their new label on January 17, 2012. Powerviolence
Powerviolence (sometimes written as power violence) is an extremely dissonant and fast subgenre of hardcore punk which is closely related to thrashcore and grindcore. In contrast with grindcore, which is a "crossover" idiom containing musical aspects of heavy metal, powerviolence is just an augmentation of the most challenging qualities of hardcore punk. Like its predecessors, it is usually socio-politically charged and iconoclastic. History Siege are considered the pioneers of powerviolence. Additionally, Infest have received credit for having an early impact on the genre. The microgenre solidified into its commonly recognized form in the early 1990s. Deathwish Inc
Deathwish, Inc. is an American independent record label conceived by Jacob Bannon of Converge and Tre McCarthy in 2000. Their first release was '' Deeper the Wound'', a split album between Converge and Japanese band Hellchild on April 23, 2001. Deathwish established itself quickly, working with a diverse group of bands and eventually becoming one of the most respected and innovative labels in contemporary hardcore punk and aggressive music in general. After having previously worked with RED Distribution, in March 2016, Deathwish signed a global deal with Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), an independent distribution label under Warner Music Group that has also partnered with other punk labels including Epitaph Records, Rise Records, and Run for Cover Records. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Funeral Diner
Funeral Diner was a screamo band from Half Moon Bay, California, located near San Francisco. During their last few years, the band established a strong cult fanbase through a near constant string of releases and a touring schedule during which they visited the United States, Europe, and Japan. The band had a large catalog of splits and compilation tracks on various records. They rarely pressed CDs, and kept many of their releases in limited quantities and one-time pressings, jumping from label to label, though their last few major recordings were released by Alone Records. Their most recent full-length, ''The Underdark'', was issued on Alone in 2005. Mohinder was a post-hardcore band from Cupertino, California.
