Selb Forest
Selb is a town in the district of Wunsiedel, in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is situated in the Fichtelgebirge, on the border with the Czech Republic, 20 km northwest of Cheb and 23 km southeast of Hof. Selb is well known for its porcelain manufacture, and is the home of the Rosenthal (company) factory, founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal as a family business. The town served in the 1960s as the location for an unrealized town development plan prepared by Walter Gropius shortly before his death. Andreas Strobel
Andreas Strobel (born 13 May 1972) is a German ski mountaineer and marathon mountain biker. Strobel was born in Selb, and started bike sports as condition training in 1991. After bad results at the "Ronda Extrema" race in Riva del Garda in 1997, he intensified the training. He is also member of the national ski mountaineering team. Philip Rosenthal (industrialist)
Philip Rosenthal (23 October 1916 – 27 September 2001) was a German industrialist, socialite and Social Democratic Party politician. In 1950, Rosenthal regained control of the family's company Rosenthal AG after the fall of Nazi Germany. In 1968, Rosenthal was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit and in 1981, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1970 to 1971, he served as Germany's Parliamentary Secretary of State under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Philipp Rosenthal (6 March 1855 – 30 March 1937) was a German designer and industrialist of Jewish descent. Rosenthal founded the company Philipp Rosenthal & Co. AG in 1897 for the production of ceramic wares. Biography Philipp Rosenthal was born on 6 March 1855 in Werl, Germany. He was born to a German Jewish family, the son of the porcelain merchant Abraham Rosenthal and Emilie Rosenthal (born Meyer). Rosenthal was educated in his father's company and went to the USA at the age of 18, where he became the porcelain buyer of the Detroit-based porcelain import company Jacob Meyer Brothers. Richard Rogler
Richard Rogler (born 19 September 1949, in Selb) is a German Kabarett artist and professor of Kabarett at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Early life Rogler studied French and sport at the University of Würzburg. From 1974 to 1978 he was a member of the theater group "Ömnes & Oimel", first at Würzburg, then from 1977 in Cologne. From 1978 to 1982 he was a member of the duo "Der Wahre Anton" with Heinrich Pachl and since 1982 he had an engagement at the playhouse in Cologne. Siegfried Hausner
Siegfried Hausner (24 January 1952 – 5 May 1975) was a student member of the German Socialist Patients' Collective who was sentenced to three years imprisonment in 1972 for terrorist related crimes. When he was released in 1974, like many other former members of the SPK, he joined the Red Army Faction. Stockholm Embassy siege In 1975 Hausner was handpicked by Siegfried Haag to lead the group, known as Kommando Holger Meins who conducted the West German Embassy siege in Stockholm to force the release of 26 of his RAF comrades. Hausner was in charge of the wiring of the explosives. Twelve hours into the occupation, the explosives (15 kilogrammes of TNT) were apparently accidentally detonated.
