Seir Kieran GAA
Seir Kieran is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in a parish and Electoral Division of the same name (population c.460). Seir Kieran takes its name from Saint Ciarán of Saighir, who founded the parish as a ''civitas'' (a monastic city) in the 5th century. The club's playing facilities are based in the village of Clareen in County Offaly, Ireland. Seir Kieran caters mainly for players of the games of hurling and camogie, although the club has also competed in the Offaly football competitions and reached the Offaly Senior Football Semi-final in 1927. Founded in 1887, for 67 of its 128 years, and continuously since 1970, the club has competed in the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship, winning the Sean Robbins Cup on four occasions. Clareen
Clareen () is a village in the parish of Seir Kieran in County Offaly, Ireland. It is located 8 km east of Birr on the R421 regional road. The village is situated at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. It is the location of a Church of Ireland church (built in 1840 in the grounds of the Monastic site), a Roman Catholic church (built in 1901 on the south-eastern slope of Bell Hill), the Seir Kieran National School (built in 1874), and the Seir Kieran GAA Club (founded in 1887). Clareen was the site of an early Christian monastery known as ''Seir Kieran'', in honour of its founder, Saint Ciaran of Saigir. The monastery is one of the oldest Christian settlements in Ireland dating from the 5th century. From the 5th to the 11th century the monastery was the cathedral city of the Diocese of Ossory. Pat Fleury
Patrick "Pat" Fleury (born 18 May 1956) is an Irish former Hurling, hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Offaly GAA, Offaly senior hurling team. Born in Drumcullen, County Offaly, Fleury first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Presentation Brothers College in Birr, County Offaly, Birr. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Offaly minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1975 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1975 championship. Noel Skehan
Richard Noel Skehan (born 6 December 1944) is an Irish former hurler who played as a goalkeeper at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Skehan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior panel during the 1963 championship. Skehan spent almost a decade as a substitute before becoming a regular member of the starting fifteen and won nine All-Ireland medals (three of which were as a substitute), fourteen Leinster medals (six as a substitute) and three National Hurling League medals on the field of play. Pádraig Horan
Pádraig Horan (born 21 April 1950) is an Irish former hurler who played as a full-forward for the Offaly senior hurling team. Horan made his first appearance for the team during the 1968–69 National League and subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1986 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, four Leinster medals and one All Stars Award. Horan captained Offaly to their first All-Ireland title in 1981. In 2017, he was inducted to the GAA Hall of Fame. At club level Horan is a three-time Leinster medalist with St Rynagh's. In addition to this he has also won eleven county club championship medals. Damien Martin (born 2 October 1946) is an Irish former hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Offaly senior hurling team. Born in Banagher, County Offaly, Martin first arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Offaly minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. Martin made his senior debut during the 1964–65 National League and later became a regular member of the team. Joe McKenna
Joe McKenna (born 10 June 1951 in Shinrone, County Offaly) is an Irish former hurler who played for his local club Shinrone in Offaly and later at senior level for the Offaly county team, before transferring to South Liberties and playing at senior level for the Limerick county team. From 1970 to 1973 he represented Offaly, playing two championship and 18 league matches. From 1974 until 1985 he played for Limerick. McKenna later served as manager of the Limerick senior county team. He operates a business, selling tools, machinery and DIY equipment in Limerick city. James Langton (18 January 1918 – 18 April 1987) was an Irish hurler who usually played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Gowran, County Kilkenny, Phelan first played competitive hurling whilst at school in Kilkenny CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He made his senior debut in the 1938 championship. Langton went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during a lean era for the county, and won two All-Ireland medals and seven Leinster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. St Kieran's College (Coláiste Chiaráin) is a Roman Catholic secondary school, located on College Road, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History St Kieran's College was founded in Kilkenny, in the diocese of Ossory in 1782, after the passing of the Catholic Relief Act of 1782. This act enabled Catholics to found schools (with the consent of the Protestant bishop of the diocese) for the first time since the Irish penal laws were introduced.
