Seiont (electoral Ward)
Seiont is an electoral ward in the town of Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Wales, electing councillors to the town council and Gwynedd Council. Description The Seiont ward covers an area either side of the Afon Seiont in the southern part of the community. The ward includes the southern part of Caernarfon town centre, including Caernarfon Castle, Caernarfon railway station and the housing estates south of the A4085. Seiont is bordered to the north by the A4085 (Constantine Road) and Caernarfon High Street, to the northwest by the Menai Strait and is surrounded to the southeast and southwest by the Bontnewydd ward. The ward population, according to the 2011 Census, was 3,038. Town ward Seiont is an electoral ward to Caernarfon Town Council electing four of the seventeen town councillors. This list of electoral wards in Gwynedd includes council wards which elect (or have elected) councillors to the local authorities in the county of Gwynedd, Wales. Gwynedd was created with the merger of Anglesey with Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire in 1974, led by Gwynedd County Council. In 1996 Anglesey became a separate county and the District of Aberconwy passed to Conwy County Borough, The new Gwynedd local authority renamed itself Gwynedd Council. Pothole
A pothole is a depression in a road surface, usually asphalt pavement, where traffic has removed broken pieces of the pavement. It is usually the result of water in the underlying soil structure and traffic passing over the affected area. Water first weakens the underlying soil; traffic then fatigues and breaks the poorly supported asphalt surface in the affected area. Continued traffic action ejects both asphalt and the underlying soil material to create a hole in the pavement. Formation According to the US Army Corps of Engineers's Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, pothole formation requires two factors to be present at the same time: water and traffic. Water weakens the soil beneath the pavement while traffic applies the loads that stress the pavement past the breaking point. 2012 Gwynedd Council Election
The 2012 Gwynedd County Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Gwynedd Council in Wales. Seventy four council seats were up for re-election, however, no candidates were nominated for the Bryncrug/Llanfihangel ward, and a by-election was held in June 2012. The Gwynedd election was on the same day as other 2012 United Kingdom local elections. Results The council shifted from Plaid Cymru majority to No Overall Control (Plaid had taken control of the council between elections). With no candidates nominated for the Bryncrug/Llanfihangel ward, a by-election was held in June 2012 and the outcome could have led to a Plaid majority had the Plaid candidate won. Llais Gwynedd
(, Voice of Gwynedd) is a small regionalist political party based in Gwynedd in North Wales. The party formed following the Plaid Cymru executive's proposal to more than halve the number of primary schools in Gwynedd by closing rural schools. Many of the party's members are former members of Plaid. The campaign was founded as , or "People's Voice", but the name was changed because of another party by that name in Blaenau Gwent. District Of Arfon
The Borough of Arfon was local government district with borough status from 1974 to 1996, being one of five districts in the county of Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Etymology ''Arfon'' means "opposite Anglesey" ('Ar' + 'Fôn' which is the soft mutation of 'Môn', the Welsh name for Anglesey). The name is ancient and has been used to designate the area since early medieval times. In the Middle Ages Cantref Arfon was an administrative territorial entity of the Kingdom of Gwynedd.
