Albert Seibel
Albert Seibel (1844–1936) was a French physician and viticulturist who made hybrid crosses of European wine grapes (''Vitis vinifera'') with native North American grapes. His crosses are known as Seibel grapes. Biography Seibel was born in Aubenas in the Ardeche in 1844. In 1895, he founded a school to teach grafting methods. He died in 1936. Breeding programme In the 1860s the Phylloxera plague cut European wine production by more than two-thirds. As the pest originated in the New World, crossing American stock with European ''Vitis vinifera'' varieties was one of the promising attempts to contain the disaster. The vines produced by this hybridization did not necessarily produce better wines, but did produce vine stock that could better survive Phylloxera attacks. Seibel and his company produced over 16,000 new hybrids, with nearly 500 varieties that were then grown commercially. Cathy Seibel (born November 3, 1960) is a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Early life and education Born in West Islip, New York, Seibel graduated from Princeton University with her Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1982 and later from Fordham University School of Law with a Juris Doctor in 1985. John Seibel (born 1970) is an American broadcaster. He is the former host of KDKA's afternoon drive show ''Seibel, Starkey and Miller'' in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 93.7 The Fan from 2-6 PM. Seibel is currently the Morning news anchor at WDTN, the NBC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio. Klauspeter Seibel (7 May 1936 in Offenbach am Main – 8 January 2011 in Hamburg) was a German conductor. Trained at the Nuremberg Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, he was principal conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra (1980–1988), the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra (1987–1995), and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (1995–2005). He was notably the LPO's first music director, and after being succeeded by Carlos Miguel Prieto as principal conductor in 2005 he remained principal guest conductor of the LPO until his death. He last conducted the LPO in October 2010 when he led the orchestra in the world premiere of Stephen Dankner's ''Symphony No. 9''. Philip Matthew Seibel (born January 28, 1979) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. Biography Seibel attended the University of Texas, where he pitched for the Texas Longhorns baseball team from 1998 to 2000. He also pitched for Team USA in 1999. His professional career began in 2000 when he was drafted in the 8th round by the Montreal Expos. In April 2002 he was traded along with two other players to the New York Mets for Bruce Chen, Dicky Gonzalez, Luis Figueroa, and a player to be named later (Saul Rivera). Following the 2003 season, Seibel was placed on waivers by the Mets and picked up by the Boston Red Sox. Seibel made his major league debut on April 15, 2004, and faced just two batters.
