Sehested Cabinet
After Hugo Egmont Hørring's resignation as Council President, Hannibal Sehested of the conservative party Højre became the leader of the new cabinet, which replaced the Cabinet of Hørring. It consisted entirely of members of the party Højre, was formed on 27 April 1900 and was called the Cabinet of Sehested. The cabinet was replaced by the Cabinet of Deuntzer After the 1901 Danish Folketing election, the Council President Johan Henrik Deuntzer of the Venstre Reform Party became the leader of Denmark's first liberal government. Hannibal Sehested (council President)
Hannibal Sehested (16 November 1842 – 19 September 1924) was Danish landowner and Council President from 27 April 1900 to 24 July 1901 as the leader of the Cabinet of Sehested. He was the last Danish Council President appointed by the king without support from the Danish Parliament before Denmark switched to a parliamentary system and the secret ballot. Biography Sehested was born at Gudme on the island of Funen, Denmark. He was the son of Niels Frederik Bernhard Sehested and his wife Charlotte Christine Linde. He became a student at Herlufsholm School in 1860 and graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 1869. In 1886 he was elected to the County Council and represented the Højre party for the 6th County Council until 1910. Sehested took over Stamhuset Broholm in 1894. Minister for Iceland ( da, Minister for Island, ; is, Ráðherra Íslands) was a post in the Danish cabinet for Icelandic affairs. History The post was established on 5 January 1874 as, according to the Constitution of Iceland, the executive power rested in the King of Denmark through the Danish cabinet. The Constitutional Act of Iceland of 3 October 1903 stated that the Minister for Iceland had to be a resident of Reykjavík and be able to read and write Icelandic. The minister was responsible to the Icelandic parliament. The post of Minister for Iceland was part of the post of Justice Minister of Denmark until 1904 when Iceland obtained extended home rule. After an agreement with the Social Liberal government in Copenhagen in January 1917, Jón Magnússon formed the first coalition government consisting of three ministers and with a majority in the Althing behind it. The Cabinet of Denmark ( da, regering) has been the chief executive body and the government of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1848. The Cabinet is led by the Prime Minister. There are around 25 members of the Cabinet, known as "ministers", all of whom are also heads of specific government ministries. The Cabinet has usually been composed of Ministers from two or more parties forming a coalition government. Still, most of these governments have been minority governments, relying on the support of still other parties. Cabinets are formally appointed by the Monarch. In practice, once a government has stepped down, there is a fixed set of rules for appointing an investigator (most often the future Prime Minister), with the job of trying to form a new government.
