Sefton Park Cricket Club
Sefton Park Cricket Club in south Liverpool, England was formed as Sefton Cricket Club in 1860. As well as being used for Sefton's senior, women's and junior teams' home fixtures, the club hosts Lancashire age group and junior sides, Liverpool City junior representative games, University of Liverpool cricket and Last Man Stands. History The club's original ground was on Smithdown Road bounded on one side by what is now Langdale Road. With pressure on the land for development, the club moved to its present ground in the north-eastern corner of Sefton Park shortly after the park's opening in 1876. Sefton became Sefton Park Cricket Club in 1998 and in 2003 the club's second ground with its own pavilion was opened adjacent to the main ground by the city's Lord Mayor. The Love Lane Liverpool and District Cricket Competition is regarded as the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in the Liverpool area and since 2000 has been a designated England and Wales Cricket Board, ECB ECB Premier Leagues, Premier League. William Findlay (cricketer)
William Findlay (22 June 1880 – 19 June 1953) was an English cricketer and administrator. Life Findlay was born in Liverpool. He was educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford. He played first-class cricket for Lancashire and Oxford University as a batsman and wicket-keeper. When Albert Chevallier Tayler was preparing his painting, ''Kent vs Lancashire at Canterbury'' he arranged sittings with the Kent team. Tayler also intended to do the same with the non-striking Lancashire batsman, Harry Makepeace. Makepeace however was unable to attend a sitting, so Tayler compromised by using Findlay as the batsman. Findlay had not actually played in that particular match, but he was able to travel to Tayler's London studio as he had just been appointed as secretary of Surrey County Cricket Club after his retirement as a cricket player at the end of 1906. Chris Whelan
Christopher David Whelan (born 8 May 1986 in Liverpool) is an English first-class cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium bowler, who has represented Middlesex and Worcestershire. He came through the ranks at Sefton Park CC, taking a 1st XI hat-trick at Lytham aged 16, and scored a record 177 not out for his school, St Margaret's, in an under-15 final. Whelan played for Middlesex's second team in 2003, but made his List A debut on 2 September 2004, when he appeared against Sussex in a totesport League game at Hove. In a crushing 135-run defeat, Whelan's success was very limited: he returned an analysis of 7–0–40–0 and scored 6 at the bottom of the order (by which time Middlesex's cause had long since been lost). Leicestershire County Cricket Club
Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. Paul James Horton (born 20 September 1982 in Sydney, Australia) is a retired former cricketer who played for Lancashire and Leicestershire in England and Matabeleland Tuskers in Zimbabwe. Noel Cooke
Noel Henry Cooke (5 January 1935 – 28 February 1995) was an English cricketer active from 1956 to 1963 who played for Lancashire. He was born in Liverpool, joining Sefton CC as a schoolboy and making his 1st XI debut in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition in 1952 whilst still at school and topped the Competition bowling averages in 1953 and 1955 before becoming the first player to score 500 runs (532 at 34.31) and take 50 wickets (52 at 10.92) in the same season in 1956 and was invited to play for Lancashire 2nd XI. Cooke made his Lancashire 2nd XI debut in 1956 but had to wait until 1958 to make the first of his 12 first-class matches as a right-handed batsman who bowled right arm off break. The NCCA 3 Day Championship (previously the Minor Counties Cricket Championship) is a season-long competition in England and Wales that is contested by the members of the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), the so-called national counties that do not have first-class status. History The competition began in 1895, with the Worcestershire honorary secretary Paul Foley being influential in its creation.
