Seedley is an inner city suburb of City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Buile Hill Park is a large park in Seedley. History The area is mostly made up of terraced housing, dating from the late 19th century and early 20th century. It was part of the County Borough of Salford in the administrative county of Lancashire. There was a railway station serving the area between 1882 and 1956. The City of Salford () is a metropolitan borough within Greater Manchester, England. The borough is named after its main settlement, Salford. The borough covers the towns of Eccles, Swinton, Walkden and Pendlebury, as well as the villages and suburbs of Monton, Little Hulton, Boothstown, Ellenbrook, Clifton, Cadishead, Pendleton, Winton and Worsley. Emmeline Pankhurst
Emmeline Pankhurst ('' née'' Goulden; 15 July 1858 – 14 June 1928) was an English political activist who organised the UK suffragette movement and helped women win the right to vote. In 1999, ''Time'' named her as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, stating that "she shaped an idea of objects for our time" and "shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back". Harold Riley (artist)
Harold Francis Riley DL (born 21 December 1934), is an English artist. He sold his first painting to the Salford Museum and Art Gallery when he was 11. Biography Riley attended Salford Grammar School. In 1951 he won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London. After a one-year postgraduate course at the Slade he won a travel scholarship to Italy, followed by a British Council Scholarship to study in Spain, and went on to study in Florence and Spain before returning to Salford, where he has lived ever since. He completed his National Service as an officer in 1957. In 1960 Riley returned to Salford, where he still lives and works. He believed his main work was to document the city and his life-cycle in Salford in paintings, drawings and photographs. His deep affection for his home town cemented a friendship with L.S. Manchester Metrolink (branded locally simply as Metrolink) is a tram/ light rail system in Greater Manchester, England. The network has 99 stops along of standard-gauge route, making it the most extensive light rail system in the United Kingdom. Weaste () is a suburb in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. In 2014, Weaste and Seedley ward had a population of 12,616. History Historically in Lancashire, it is an industrial area, with many industrial estates. The A57 (Eccles New Road) passes through Weaste, which lies close to the M602 motorway. Weaste is north of Salford Quays. The name is from Old French ''waste'' meaning "common land, waste". Textiles and the Industrial Revolution 19th century cotton firm Ermen & Engels—part-owned by the father of Friedrich Engels—established its second factory in 1837 near Weaste Station, on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway line. Pendleton, Greater Manchester
Pendleton is a suburb and district of Salford, in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England, located from Manchester. The A6 dual carriageway skirts the east of the district. Historically in Lancashire, Pendleton experienced rapid urbanisation during the Industrial Revolution. History The township has been variously recorded as Penelton in 1199, Pennelton in 1212, Penilton in 1236, Penhulton in 1331, Penulton in 1356 and Pendleton from about 1600. In the Middle Ages the manor was held by the Hultons of Hulton Park. Until 1780, Pendleton was rural, a group of cottages around a village green with a maypole.
