Sedotta E Abbandonata
''Seduced and Abandoned'' ( it, Sedotta e abbandonata) is a 1964 Italian film directed by Pietro Germi. It was screened at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The film presents the tale of Agnese Ascalone, daughter of prominent quarry owner Vincenzo Ascalone, and takes place in a small town in Sicily (specifically Sciacca), as did Germi's previous film, ''Divorce, Italian Style''. Agnese is seduced by her sister Matilde's fiancé, and has a tryst with him for which she confesses and tries to repent, only to be discovered by her mother and father. Vincenzo immediately demands that the man, Peppino Califano, marry his daughter, and antics ensue. The film is a dark satire of Sicilian social customs and honor laws, and is very similar to ''Divorce, Italian Style''. Pietro Germi
Pietro Germi (; 14 September 1914 – 5 December 1974) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor, noted for his development of the neorealist and commedia all'Italiana genres. His 1961 film ''Divorce Italian Style'' earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar and a Best Director nomination at the 35th Academy Awards. Seven of his films competed at the Cannes Film Festival, with his 1966 comedy ''The Birds, the Bees and the Italians'' winning the Palme d'Or. Biography He studied acting and directing at Rome's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. During his time in school, Germi supported himself by working as an extra, bit actor, assistant director, and, on occasion, writer. Rocco D'Assunta (7 February 1904 – 27 January 1970) was an Italian actor, comedian and playwright. Life and career Born in Palermo, D'Assunta started acting at very young age with several Sicilian stage companies, including the ones led by Angelo Musco and Giovanni Grasso.
