Section 44 Records is an independent record label and online store based in Colorado and specializing in electronic music and related genres. In 2004, Section 44 Records was formed by Pierre Norman and Randall Erkelens from the band Tristraum. Section 44 acquired the synthpop forum Sloth Radio and defunct label Kiss My Asterix Records. A Different Drum
A Different Drum was an independent record label and online store based in Smithfield, Utah, founded in 1996. The label specialized in synthpop and related genres. A Different Drum has released hundreds of albums, singles, and compilations and was the biggest synthpop label in the U.S. The label is credited with helping to keep the synthpop genre progressing during the grunge rock mid-1990s and into the early 2000s, particularly supporting American Synthpop Groups ( Cosmicity, The Echoing Green, B! Machine and others) in their early years. The label also supported older synthpop bands which previously had Billboard chart hits during the 1980s, such as Alphaville (band), and Real Life (band), putting out releases for both bands during this time. In the early to mid 2000s, A Different Drum signed new acts such as Iris and Provision. Leiahdorus is a synthpop band on the independent Section 44 Records label. Leiahdorus was created by Jason Smith in 1998. When Joey Belville of The Echoing Green acquired a demonstration tape, he took Jason under his wing and produced a demo with him. In 2000 this three track demo found its way to Todd Durrant of the synthpop label A Different Drum. This resulted in Jason being signed to an album deal. Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Electronic musical synthesizers that could be used practically in a recording studio became available in the mid-1960s, and the mid-1970s saw the rise of electronic art musicians. Tristraum is a futurepop band from Denver, Colorado. The band consists of Krystyna Eller (lead vocals and lyrics), Randall Erkelens (synthesizers & programming), and Pierre Norman (programming). Career Their first single 'Shiver' charted on the German DAC charts with remixes from Assemblage 23 and Echo Image. Released on the German label Intrapop and distributed by A Different Drum, 'Shiver' earned positive music reviews. ''Gray'', their debut album on Section 44 Records, was released in 2005 followed by a second single "First Embrace" in 2006. Pierre Norman
Pierre Norman, born Joseph P. Connor (November 16, 1895 – March 31, 1952), was an American clergyman, songwriter, and composer. He was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, United States, and died in Teaneck, New Jersey. As a songwriter he is most famous for co-writing two songs: "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" (1930) that appeared in the Maurice Chevalier movie ''The Big Pond'' (1930) and "When I Take My Sugar to Tea" (1931), both of which were used in the Marx Brothers movie, '' Monkey Business'', and both of which were co-written with Sammy Fain and Irving Kahal. He joined ASCAP in 1925. He was educated at the Wyoming Conservatory and St. Bonaventure College where he received among other degrees, a Doctor of Music. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN).
