''Secrets of the Hidden Temple'' is the debut studio album by American hip hop group Blac Monks, which consisted of Houston-based rappers Mr. 3-2, D.A. and Awol. It was released on September 13, 1994 through Rap-A-Lot Records. Production on the album was done by John Bido, Troy Clark and DJ Ready Red. Blac Monks was an American southern hip hop group from Houston, Texas, consisting of 3-2, D.A. and Awol. In 1994, they released their debut album '' Secrets of the Hidden Temple'' via Rap-A-Lot Records, which also featured Quiet Storm (Assata Tafari) on the single "Buddha Nature". Assata and Raheem joined the group to release their sophomore album '' No Mercy''. Southern Hip Hop
Southern hip hop, also known as Southern rap, South Coast hip hop, or dirty south, is a blanket term for a regional genre of American hip hop music that emerged in the Southern United States, especially in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, and Miami—five cities which constitute the "Southern Network" in rap music. The music was a reaction to the 1980s flow of hip hop culture from New York City and the Los Angeles area and can be considered the third major American hip hop scene, alongside East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop. Rap-A-Lot is a hip hop record label co-founded by James Prince and Cliff Blodget in 1986. Smoke-a-Lot Records is a subsidiary. Rap-A-Lot was first distributed by A&M Records with the release of Raheem's 1988 debut ''The Vigilante''. The label was distributed through the 1990s by EMI's Priority Records (1991–1994), Noo Trybe Records (1994-1998), and Virgin Records (1998–2002). In the 2000s, it was distributed by Asylum Records and then Fontana Distribution. On August 22, 2013, Rap-A-Lot announced a distribution deal with RED Distribution.
