Secretary Of National Defense (Philippines)
The secretary of national defense ( fil, kalihim ng tanggulang pambansa) is the head of the Department of National Defense and is a member of the president's Cabinet. The current acting secretary is Jose Faustino Jr., who assumed office on June 30, 2022. This cabinet post is considered one of the stepping stones of the Philippine presidency. Two secretaries of defense were elected president: Ramon Magsaysay in 1953 and Fidel V. Ramos in 1992. Several others have run for president, such as Alejo Santos, Juan Ponce Enrile, Renato de Villa, Norberto Gonzales and Gilbert Teodoro. The Department of National Defense (DND; fil, Kagawaran ng Tanggulang Pambansa, ''KTP'') is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for guarding against external and internal threats to peace and security in the country. The Department of National Defense exercises executive supervision over the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), the Government Arsenal (GA), and Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC). Sotero "Terong" Barte Cabahug (April 22, 1891 – December 15, 1963) was a Filipino lawyer, legislator, politician, and civil servant from Mandaue, Cebu, Philippines. Oscar Castelo
Oscar Castelo (May 20, 1903 – June 20, 1982) was a judge of the Manila Court and Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines. Born in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, Castelo enrolled at the San Juan de Letran and later at Escuela de Derecho. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1927 and was equally fluent in English and Spanish. He later moved to United States, where he died on June 20, 1982, aged 79. Elpidio Quirino
Elpidio Rivera Quirino (born Elpidio Quirino y Rivera; ; November 16, 1890 – February 29, 1956) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the sixth president of the Philippines from 1948 to 1953. A lawyer by profession, Quirino entered politics when he became a representative of Ilocos Sur from 1919 to 1925. He was then elected as a senator from 1925 to 1935. In 1934, he became a member of the Philippine Independence Commission that was sent to Washington, D.C., which secured the passage of Tydings–McDuffie Act to the United States Congress. Ruperto Kangleon
Ruperto Cadava Kangleón (March 27, 1890 – February 27, 1958) was a Filipino military figure and politician. He was a native of the municipality of Macrohon in the province now named Southern Leyte. Kangleón was the acknowledged leader of the Resistance Movement in Leyte during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II. As such, his guerrilla forces helped pave the way for the American Leyte Landings on their return to the Philippines in 1944. Sergio Osmeña Sr. (, ; 9 September 1878 – 19 October 1961) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the fourth president of the Philippines from 1944 to 1946. He was vice president under Manuel L. Quezon.
