''Secret of the Wasteland'' is a 1941 American Western film directed by Derwin Abrahams and written by Gerald Geraghty. The film stars William Boyd, Andy Clyde, Brad King, Soo Yong, Barbara Britton, Douglas Fowley and Keith Richards. The film was released on November 15, 1941, by Paramount Pictures. The on-screen title is ''Secrets of the Wasteland'' ("Secrets" is plural, "Wasteland" is singular). Derwin Abrahams (1903–1974) was an American film director. He directed four serials in the 1940s for Columbia Pictures, including ''Hop Harrigan'', ''Chick Carter, Detective'', ''Tex Granger'', and ''Son of the Guardsman'', followed by '' The Great Adventures of Captain Kidd'' in 1953.Cline, William C. Studio System by Gracenote, formerly known as Baseline StudioSystems, is an American e-commerce company. It was founded in 1982 and licenses its commercial entertainment database, known as Studio System. It is owned by Gracenote, a subsidiary of Nielsen Holdings. Hopalong Cassidy Films
From 1935 to 1948, 66 American Western films were produced featuring the character Hopalong Cassidy, played in all the films by actor William Boyd. The films were at the time collectively known as "Hoppies". In the films, Hopalong, or "Hoppy", and his white horse, Topper, travel through the Old West while dispensing justice, usually with two companions: one young and trouble-prone with a weakness for damsels in distress, the other older, comically awkward and outspoken. The juvenile lead was successively played by James Ellison, Russell Hayden, George Reeves, Rand Brooks, and Jimmy Rogers. George Hayes (later to become known as "Gabby" Hayes) originally played Cassidy's grizzled sidekick, Windy Halliday. Harry Franklin "Hal" Price (June 24, 1886 – April 15, 1964) was an American film and stage actor. He appeared in more than 260 films between 1930 and 1952. He is the father of character actress and comedian Lu Leonard. On stage, Price toured for three months with Will Rogers in a production of '' Ah, Wilderness!''. He also performed with Leo Carillo and William Gillette. He had the role of Willem in the Broadway production of '' The Red Mill'' (1945). Roland Got (1916-1948) was a Chinese American character actor who worked in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. Biography Roland Got was born in San Francisco, California, in 1916 to William Got and Lilly Leong. His father, who immigrated from China, worked as a tailor, and his Chinese American mother was a seamstress. The family later moved to Los Angeles, where Roland and his siblings attended Jefferson High School. In L.A., Roland, a talented artist, also played on a semi-professional football team. After high school, Got signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and trained at the Motion Picture Academy. His big break came when he was cast in the 1937 film ''The Good Earth''. He eventually appeared in nearly twenty films. He married Grace Chew, and together they had a daughter. Ian MacDonald (born Ulva Pippy, June 28, 1914 – April 11, 1978) was an American actor and producer during the 1940s and 1950s. He is perhaps best known as villain Frank Miller in '' High Noon'' (1952). Early years MacDonald was the son of Rev. William Pippy and Sarah MacDonald Pippy. He attended schools in Helena, Montana, and developed an interest in acting while he was a student at Helena High School. He continued acting at Intermountain College in Helena, from which he graduated in 1934. He taught school for two years in Marysville before he moved to Hollywood, after which he washed dishes at a YMCA and studied drama at the Pasadena Community Playhouse.
