Second Wilson Ministry (Western Australia)
The Second Wilson Ministry was the 12th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia and was led by Liberal Premier Frank Wilson. It succeeded the Scaddan Ministry on 27 July 1916 after a vote of no confidence passed in the Legislative Assembly, due mainly to the Labor Party losing its one-seat majority through a by-election and a member resigning from the party to become an independent. In early 1917, the Liberal Party was consumed by the Nationalist Party, to whom most of its members pledged their allegiance. Its leader, Sir Henry Lefroy Sir Henry Bruce Lefroy (24 March 1854 – 19 March 1930) was the eleventh Premier of Western Australia. The Ministry
In constitutional usage in Commonwealth realms, a ministry (usually preceded by the definite article, i.e., the ministry) is a collective body of government ministers led by a head of government, such as a prime minister. It is described by Oxford Dictionaries as "a period of government under one prime minister". Although the term "cabinet" can in some circumstances be a synonym, a ministry can be a broader concept which might include office-holders who do not participate in cabinet meetings. Minister for Water is a position in the government of Western Australia, currently held by Dave Kelly of the Labor Party. The position was first created in 1913, for the government of John Scaddan, and has existed in almost every government since then. The minister is responsible for the state government's Department of Water, which manage water resources in Western Australia. Until the 1930s, the responsibilities now held by the Minister for Water were often shared by two ministers, each with a different title. Athelstan Saw
Dr Athelstan John Henton Saw (16 July 1868 – 28 November 1929), was a Western Australian politician and university administrator. Biography Saw was born in Perth, Western Australia, the son of merchant Henry Saw, and studied at Perth High School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a Master of Arts. He subsequently gained a Bachelor of Medicine and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. In 1895 he was appointed honorary surgeon to the Perth Hospital. In 1915 Saw was first elected unopposed for the Western Australian Liberal Party (1911–17), Liberal Party to the Western Australian Legislative Council, Legislative Council for the Metropolitan-Suburban Province, retaining his seat for 14 years. James Connolly (Australian Politician)
Sir James Daniel Connolly (2 December 1869 – 12 February 1962) was an Australian politician who served in both houses of the Parliament of Western Australia. He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1901 to 1914 and a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1914 to 1917, and served as a minister in the governments of Newton Moore and Frank Wilson. Connolly spent much of his later life in the United Kingdom, where he served as agent-general for Western Australia (1917 to 1923) and Malta (1929 to 1932). The Attorney-General of Western Australia is the member of the Government of Western Australia responsible for maintenance and improvement of Western Australia's system of law and justice. William James George
William James George CMG (26 January 1853 – 10 March 1931) was an Australian engineer and politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1895 to 1902 and from 1909 to 1930. He was a minister in the governments of Frank Wilson, Henry Lefroy, Hal Colebatch, and James Mitchell. Early life George was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, to Eleanor (née Sheldon) and Henry Wellington George. He studied mechanical engineering at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, and emigrated to Australia in 1884, initially settling in Victoria. George moved to Western Australia in 1891, where he initially managed a timber plantation at Jarrahdale. He later opened a foundry in Perth, and was involved in the construction of the Victoria Dam, as well as the extensions of the Northern Railway to Mullewa and the South Western Railway to Bunbury. Hal Colebatch
Sir Harry Pateshall Colebatch (29 March 1872 – 12 February 1953) was a long-serving and occasionally controversial figure in Western Australian politics. He was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council for nearly 20 years, the twelfth Premier of Western Australia for a month in 1919, agent-general in London for five years, and a senator for four years. Born in England, his family migrated to South Australia when Colebatch was four years old. He left school aged 11 and worked for several newspapers in South Australia before moving to Broken Hill in New South Wales in 1888.
