''Second Origin'' is a 2015 Spanish film directed by Carles Porta, after an idea of Bigas Luna, co-produced by Produccions Audiovisuals Antàrtida and Ipso Facto Films. It is an adaptation by Bigas Luna, Carles Porta and Carmen Chaves of the well-known novel '' Mecanoscrit del segon origen'' by the Spanish writer Manuel de Pedrolo. Plot Alba is a 20-year-old girl who lives with her father of English origin in a farmhouse in a place near the city of Lleida. They have lived there for eighteen months, after Alba's mother died of cancer in London and her father's decision to move to his wife's birthplace. Alba teaches English to Dídac, a 10-year-old-boy who loves football and tractors. One day as Alba is returning home on her motorbike, she sees three boys throwing Dídac into the lake. ''Typescript of the Second Origin'' ( Catalan: ''Mecanoscrit del segon origen'') is a science fiction novel written by Manuel de Pedrolo in 1974, that had a great success and that has become one of the best-selling books of Catalan literature. The work is divided into 6 chapters, the first 5 of them having a similar extension and being called ''Quaderns'' (Catalan word for ''Notebooks'') and the last of them being short and entitled «És l'Alba la mare de la humanitat actual?» (''Is Alba the mother of current humanity?''). The novel was published in English in 2017 by Wesleyan University Press. Manuel de Pedrolo i Molina (; 1918 – 1990) was a Catalan author of novels, short stories, poetry and plays. He's mostly known for his sci-fi novel ''Mecanoscrit del segon origen'' ('' Typescript of the Second Origin''). Mini-biography Manuel de Pedrolo was born in 1918 in L'Aranyó, in the Segarra comarca (county), in Catalonia. After the Spanish Civil War he settled down in Barcelona, where he worked at a great number of jobs while writing as a background activity. From 1974, he was able to devote himself to literature, creating works, translating, and doing other minor editorial tasks. He died in Barcelona, in 1990, after suffering a long illness.
