Second Hand Rose (film)
''Second Hand Rose'' is a 1922 American drama film directed by Lloyd Ingraham and written by A. P. Younger. The film stars Gladys Walton, George B. Williams, A. Edward Sutherland, Wade Boteler, Max Davidson, and Virginia Adair. The film was released on May 8, 1922, by Universal Film Manufacturing Company. Plot As described in a film magazine, Rose O'Grady (Walton), an Irish waif, is adopted by kindhearted Hebrew pawnbroker Isaac Rosenstein (Williams), and, when Mama Rosenstein dies, Rose assumes the duties of housekeeper. Son Nat Rosenstein, employed in a silk factory, is robbed of some waybills and is sentenced to jail. He is released from jail through the political influence of Tim McCarthy (Perry), who wants to marry Rose. Nat aids the police in catching other crooks, and Rose confesses her love for Terry O'Brien (Dougherty), who takes Rose away from the secondhand store and secondhand family. ''The Film Daily'' was a daily publication that existed from 1918 to 1970 in the United States. It was the first daily newspaper published solely for the film industry. It covered the latest trade news, film reviews, financial updates, information on court cases and union difficulties, and equipment breakthroughs. Publication history The publication was originated by Wid Gunning in 1913 (though not as a daily) and was known as ''Wid's Film and Film Folk'' (1915–1916) and ''Wid's Independent Review of Feature Films'' (1916–1918). Gunning was previously film editor at the ''New York Evening Mail''. He also published ''Wid's Weekly'', and ''Wid's Year Book''. In 1918, Joseph ("Danny") Dannenberg and Jack Alicoate purchased an interest in ''Wid's Weekly''. On March 8, 1918 they released a daily publication, ''Wid's Daily''. Walter Perry (actor)
Walter Laing MacDonald Perry, Baron Perry of Walton, OBE, FRS, FRCP, FRSE (16 June 1921 – 17 July 2003) was a distinguished Scottish academic. He was the first Vice Chancellor of the Open University. Life Perry was born in Dundee, son of Flora and Fletcher Perry, and educated at Ayr Academy, and the High School of Dundee. He studied medicine at the University of St Andrews graduating with an MB ChB in 1943, his MD in 1948 and a DSc in 1958. Between 1944 and 1946 he worked as a Medical Officer in Nigeria. He later worked as a scientist for institutions like the Medical Research Council. In particular he became an expert on polio. He had a reputation for following the scientific method rigorously. He developed his career at the University of Edinburgh as Professor of Pharmacology, later Dean of Medicine and Vice Principal.
