Sebastian Blanck
Sebastian Blanck (born July 18, 1976) is an American musician and figurative painter, best known for his work with the band Black Dice and later his paintings. Work Early life Blanck was born in 1976 in New Haven, Connecticut, to Maggie Land and Dr. Thomas J.J. Blanck, a professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at New York University Hospital. He received a B.F.A. in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998. In 2001, he was a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome. In 2003 Sebastian Blanck married artist Isca Greenfield-Sanders, with family friend Lou Reed officiating the wedding. Music In the late 1990s, he became a founding member of the experimental electronica group Black Dice along with Bjorn Copeland, Hisham Bharoocha and Eric Copeland. Baldwin Gallery
The Baldwin Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Aspen, Colorado established by Richard Edwards in 1994. The gallery features a variety of mainly American but also international contemporary artists and works including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and installation-based work. History The gallery was founded in 1994 by Edwards along with the prominent Aspen businessman and philanthropist, Harley Baldwin. As stated in the New York Times obituary for Mr. Baldwin in 2005: The gallery opened in a small space but moved in 1997 to a purpose built space in the historic Brand Building in downtown Aspen. ''Thinking XXX'' is a 2004 documentary television film about the process photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders went through to create his book ''XXX: 30 Porn Star Portraits''. Content The film shows Greenfield-Sanders as he shoots portraits of thirty porn stars both clothed and naked for the book as well as presenting conversations and interviews with the performers along with authors, artists and filmmakers outside of the pornography industry. For the portraits Greenfield-Sanders uses an antique view camera as both a challenge to his photographic skills and to have negatives large enough to create oversized exhibition prints for gallery exhibitions.
