Sebahat Tuncel
Sebahat Tuncel (born 5 July 1975) is a Turkish politician of Kurdish origin, women's rights advocate, former nurse and member of the Parliament in Turkey. She was elected a member of parliament while being in prison. Early life and education She was born in Yazıhan and studied cartography and land surveying in Mersin University, before beginning her political career through the Women's Branch of the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) in 1998. After she was involved in the foundation of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), she became the spokesperson of its women's assembly. Subsequently she was the vice co-chairperson and Istanbul deputy of the DTP, She has also worked with international organizations such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Amnesty International (AI). Democratic People's Party (Turkey)
The Democratic People's Party ( tr, Demokratik Halk Partisi, DEHAP) was a pro-Kurdish political party in Turkey. Founding and political context DEHAP was founded 24 October 1997. It was the continuation of the People's Democracy Party (HADEP), which was banned in March 2003 by the Constitutional Court on the grounds that it supported the Kurdistan Workers Party PKK). On the 26th of March, 2003, 35 Mayors who were part of the HADEP joined the DEHAP. The party had three chairmen. The party was at first presided by Veysi Aydin, who was elected on the parties first ordinary congress in January 1998. Thousand Hope Candidates
The Thousand Hope Candidates ( Turkish: ''Bin Umut Adayları'') was an electoral alliance between four left-wing political parties in Turkey, formed in preparation for the 2007 general election. The alliance contested the election by fielding candidates from participating parties as independents in order to bypass the 10% election threshold needed to win seats in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The alliance's candidates won a total of 1,334,518 votes and 22 seats in the election. Kurdistan Workers' Party
The Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK is a Kurdish militant political organization and armed guerrilla movement, which historically operated throughout Kurdistan, but is now primarily based in the mountainous Kurdish-majority regions of southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.
