Seat Farm
In Scandinavia, a seat farm (Danish: ''sædegård''; Norwegian: ''setegård''/''setegard''; Swedish: ''sätesgård'' or ''säteri''; Finnish: ''säteriratsutila'') was a farm where a nobleman had his permanent residence. They were found in the Kingdom of Denmark, the Kingdom of Norway, the Kingdom of Sweden, and Finland, and enjoyed certain privileges. Norway The term was originally used for any farm where a nobleman chose to reside. In 1639 the status of seat farm was restricted to farms that for at least the previous forty years had enjoyed this status. After 1660, when absolute monarchy was introduced in Norway, non-noble persons could also achieve this status for their farm of residence. Seat farms had, especially, freedom from taxes and tithes. Austrått
Austrått or Austrått Manor ( no, Austråttborgen) is a manor in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. Since the 10th century, Austrått has been the residence for many noblemen, noblewomen, and officials who played a significant role in Norwegian history. In historical records, Austrått can also be found written as ''Østråt'', ''Østeraat'', ''Østeraad'', ''Austaat'', and ''Austråt.'' The layout of the manor as it stands today is attributed to chancellor Ove Bjelke, for whom construction was completed around 1656. The manor house burned in 1916. Restoration was begun in the 1920s and completed in 1961. The manor house was previously part of a larger property, but the land is now independent from the manor house. The Norwegian state owns the manor house, which is administered by Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim. The manor is open for public tours from June until August. Rygge
Rygge was a municipality in Østfold county, Norway. It was merged into Moss municipality on January 1, 2020. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Rygge. Rygge was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The emblem of Rygge is the Pasque flower. Rygge is connected to Oslo by double-tracked railway, and four-lane motorway. Rygge was served by Moss Airport, which has not been operational since 2016. Fredrikstad
Fredrikstad (; previously ''Frederiksstad''; literally "Fredrik's Town") is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Fredrikstad. The city of Fredrikstad was founded in 1567 by King Frederick II, and established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see '' formannskapsdistrikt''). The rural municipality of Glemmen was merged with Fredrikstad on 1 January 1964. The rural municipalities of Borge, Onsøy, Kråkerøy, and Rolvsøy were merged with Fredrikstad on 1 January 1994. Elingård
Elingård (''Elingaard herregård'') is a manor house and an estate located at Fredrikstad in Viken county, Norway. The manor is situated on the Onsøy peninsula outside of Fredrikstad. Elingaard manor is currently operated as a museum. History and description The current main building was erected in the Renaissance style and was completed early in 1749. The building was constructed on two floors and consists of a main wing and two side wings. Outside is a garden laid out in the English manner. Elingård estate was owned by members of the Østby and Gyldenhorn families in the 15th century and of the noble family Brockenhuus in the 16th century. Chancellor of Norway Jens Bjelke acquired the estate through marriage with Sophie Brockenhuus in 1610. With this marriage, he became one of the wealthiest nobles in Norway.
