Moe (band)
Moe (stylized as moe.) is an American jam rock band, formed at the University at Buffalo in 1989. The band members are Rob Derhak ( bass, vocals), Al Schnier (guitar, vocals, keyboard), Chuck Garvey (guitar, vocals), Vinnie Amico (drums), and Jim Loughlin (percussion). The band's first record, '' Fatboy'' (1992), established the band as a favorite of the 1990s jam band and improvisational rock scene, which grew in popularity with the rise of bands such as Phish and Widespread Panic. Moe toured with the Furthur Festival in 1997, appeared at Woodstock '99, played Summerstage at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, opened for The Allman Brothers and The Who, performed at Radio City Music Hall on New Year's Eve 2006 and returned there for New Year's Eve 2007. ''Wormwood'' is an album by Moe. It was released on February 4, 2003 by Fatboy Records. ''Wormwood'' is considered an interesting album for the way it was recorded. The band took live recordings of their new songs from various Summer 2002 shows onward and interlaced them with studio takes. For this reason, there are sometimes cheers of the crowd evident (such as during the beginning of "Bullet"). Additionally, the album can be viewed as one seamless track, with the instrumental tracks bridging the gaps (segues) into the next. 2004 Jammy Award winner for best studio album. Jam Band
A jam band is a musical group whose concerts (and live albums) are characterized by lengthy improvisational "jams." Chuck Garvey
Chuck Garvey is one of two guitarists for the American rock band moe. His playing has been influenced by Frank Zappa, Mick Ronson, David Bowie, Pete Townshend, Andy Summers, Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He lives in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. On the morning of November 6, 2021, Garvey suffered a stroke while at home. moe. Garvey is one of the founding members of moe. along with Rob Derhak. Both first played a Halloween show at a friend's request in 1989 with drummer Ray Schwartz. Since then, Garvey has been co-guitarist of the band along with Al Schnier. Mykola Leontovych
Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych (23 January 1921; ua, Микола Дмитрович Леонтович, link=no (); also Leontovich) was a Ukrainian composer, conductor, ethnomusicologist and teacher. His music was inspired by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko and the Ukrainian National Music School. Leontovych specialised in a cappella choral music, ranging from original compositions, to church music, to elaborate arrangements of folk music. Leontovych was born and raised in the Podolia province of the Russian Empire (now in Ukraine). He was educated as a priest in the Kamianets-Podilskyi Theological Seminary and later furthered his musical education at the Saint Petersburg Court Capella, and by means of private lessons with Boleslav Yavorsky. With the independence of the Ukrainian state in the 1917 revolution, Leontovych moved to Kyiv, where he worked at the Kyiv Conservatory and the Mykola Lysenko Institute of Music and Drama. Linus And Lucy
"Linus and Lucy" is a popular instrumental jazz standard written by American jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, appearing in many ''Peanuts'' animated specials. Named for the two fictional siblings Linus and Lucy van Pelt, it was originally released on Guaraldi's album ''Jazz Impressions of A Boy Named Charlie Brown''. However, it gained its greatest exposure as part of the ''A Charlie Brown Christmas'' soundtrack the following year. It is one of the most recognizable pieces by Guaraldi, and has gained status as the signature melody of the ''Peanuts'' franchise. Rob Derhak
''Robert Derhak'', also known simply as Rob, is the bass guitar player and a founding member of the American jam band moe. History Derhak's earliest known time performing as a member of a band was on Halloween 1989, playing at a party with guitarist Chuck Garvey and a drummer named Ray Schwartz. He officially formed a band with Garvey, Schwartz, and others, in the Winter of 1990, calling themselves "Five Guys Named Moe", after the Louis Jordan song. They played several shows in the Buffalo, New York area. By the fall of 1990 the band was officially called moe., with the full stop being added the following year. Derhak went to college at State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY) where the band moe. was solidified. Derhak was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer in July 2017, prompting moe. to go on indefinite hiatus to allow time for his treatment.
