Adam Searles (born 1 June 1981) is a British stage, film, and television actor. He has portrayed Gavroche in ''Les Misérables'' at the Palace Theatre, London, and played the original Artful Dodger in Cameron Mackintosh's 1994 production of '' Oliver!'' at the London Palladium. Searles opened the show in 1994 with Jonathan Pryce in the role of Fagin and was requested to close the show in 1998 with Jim Dale as Fagin. Baird Searles
William Baird Searles (1934–1993) was a science fiction author and critic. He was best known for his long running review columns for the magazines '' Asimov's'' (reviewing books), '' Amazing'', and ''Fantasy & Science Fiction'' (reviewing films, television and related media). He also did occasional reviews for other publications, including ''The New York Times'', ''Publishers Weekly'', and ''The Village Voice''. He wrote several non-fiction works on the science fiction genre. Searles managed a science fiction and fantasy bookstore in New York City's Greenwich Village, the Science Fiction Shop, which is no longer in business. From about 1963 through 1971, Baird Searles was the Drama and Literature director at WBAI, a listener-sponsored Pacifica Foundation radio station in New York City. Charles Searles
Charles Robert Searles (July 11, 1937 – November 27, 2004) was an African American artist born in Philadelphia in 1937. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and was active from the 1960s until he died in 2004 from complications from a stroke. Education and career Searles received the Cresson Traveling Scholarship and the Ware Traveling Memorial Scholarships which allowed him to travel to Nigeria, Ghana, and Morocco in 1972. He was one of several Black students to win the Cresson scholarship: Laura Wheeler Waring, Ellen Powell Tiberino, Raymond Saunders and Louis B. Sloan. Upon his return he created a series of works titled ''Nigerian Impressions.'' One notable work painted in 1972 was ''Filas for Sale'' which depicted colorful images of masks and patterns that fill the frame of the painting. Edward Francis Searles
Edward Francis Searles (July 4, 1841 – August 6, 1920) was an interior and architectural designer. Biography Searles was born on July 4, 1841, in Methuen, Massachusetts, US to Jesse Gould Searles (1805–1844) and Sarah (Littlefield) Searles. His father worked in a local cotton mill and operated a small farm. On November 7, 1887, Searles married Mary Frances Hopkins ( Sherwood), a wealthy widow 22 years his senior. The widow of Mark Hopkins, her assets included 25% ownership of the Central Pacific Railroad. Searles was the designer of Mary's new home in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, which is now referred to as the Searles Castle, from the 1885 groundbreaking, to its completion in 1888. After Mary's death in 1891, Searles was left with his wife's vast real estate holdings in San Francisco, New York, Great Barrington, and Methuen, and $21 million. Harold Frederic Searles (September 1, 1918 – November 18, 2015) was one of the pioneers of psychiatric medicine specializing in psychoanalytic treatments of schizophrenia. Searles had the reputation of being a therapeutic virtuoso with difficult and borderline patients; and of being, in the words of Horacio Etchegoyen, president of the IPA, "not only a great analyst but also a sagacious observer and a creative and careful theoretician". Mary Frances Hopkins Searles ( Sherwood; March 8, 1818 – July 25, 1891) was an American millionaire. After her first husband's death, she was one of the richest women in the United States, and used her wealth to realize her architectural interests. Life Mary Frances Sherwood was born in New York City, the daughter of headmaster William Sherwood. She was educated at Kellogg Terrace School in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She married her first husband, railroad tycoon Mark Hopkins, Jr., on September 22, 1854. Hopkins and Sherwood were first cousins. The childless couple lived for most of their marriage in Sacramento, California, moving to San Francisco for the last four years of Hopkins' life. Michael Searles (1750–1813) was an English commercial architect of large houses, particularly in London. His most notable achievement is perhaps The Paragon in Blackheath. Searles was the son of a Greenwich surveyor, also named Michael Searles (c. 1722–1799), who served (from 1765) as surveyor to Morden College in Blackheath. Searles and his father formed an unofficial father and son partnership producing plans in and around Greenwich before Searles junior set up his own practice. Landowner John Cator granted development leases to Searles and builder William Dyer to design and build a series of high quality dwellings, intended to appeal to upper middle class buyers, situated on the south-east side of Blackheath. Facing the heath, South Row and Montpelier Row were erected from 1794 to 1805.
