Sean K. L. Browne
Sean Kekamakupaa Lee Loy Browne (born 1953) is a contemporary sculptor who was born in Hilo, Hawaii. He attended the Kamehameha Schools and then earned a BA in studio art from the University of Redlands in 1975. In 1981, he studied marble carving in Pietrasanta, Italy and was later appointed an artist-in-residence at the Henraux Marble Company in Lucca, Italy. He returned to Hawaii and earned an MFA in sculpture from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1983. In 1985 he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, enabling him to study with Isamu Noguchi in Shikoku, Japan.Honolulu Museum of Art wall label, Orpheus by Sean Browne, 1985, accession TCM.1944.4 For many years, Browne taught sculpture at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and at Kapiolani Community College. Pali Momi Medical Center
Pali Momi Medical Center is a nonprofit hospital located in Waimalu, West Oahu. It has 118 beds, and has a full range of services, including an interventional cardiac catheterization lab, CT scan and MRI services, and the state's first Retina Center. Pali Momi's emergency services division employs a team triage method, and is the only hospital in Hawaii to do so. It also has a simulation lab to further train their staff. Hawaii State Foundation On Culture And The Arts
The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts was established by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1965 to "promote, perpetuate, preserve, and encourage culture and the arts, history and the humanities as central to the quality of life of the people of Hawaii". It allowed Hawaii to receive federal grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1967, the Hawaii State Legislature enacted the Art in State Buildings Law, to be administered by the foundation. It mandated that 1% of the construction costs of new state buildings be set aside to purchase art. Hawaii thus became the first state in the United States with a Percent for Art law. Kuhio Beach Park
Kuhio Beach Park is a public ocean-side park on the island of Oahu, U.S. state of Hawaii, located within Waikiki Beach. It's a common gathering place for the Honolulu population and tourists due to its location and semi-protected waters. The park was named for Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana'ole, the youngest son of Kekaulike Kinoiki II and High Chief David Kahalepouli Piʻikoi. The current park was the site of Pualeilani, the home of Prince Kūhiō and his wife, Princess Elizabeth Kahanu. In July 1918, the prince removed a high board fence, opening a section of the beach to the public. The property was given to the city after his death in 1922, and Kuhio Beach Park was officially dedicated in 1940. Pāhoa ( haw, Pāhoa) is a census-designated place (CDP) in the District of Puna in Hawai‘i County, Hawai‘i, United States. The population was 924 at the 2020 census. The population dropped by 1.8% from 945 in the 2010 census. Geography and environment According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all of it land. Soils underlying the Pāhoa area are volcanic in origin, deriving from the currently active Kīlauea Volcano (Earth Metrics Inc., 1986). Kīlauea is one of the Earth's most active volcanoes, with the January 2006 eruption being the longest rift zone eruption in Kīlauea's 200-year recorded history (Volcanology, 2007). The volcanic soils underlying Pāhoa are considered to have been generated by lava flows within the last 125 to 500 years. Kaneohe, Hawaii
Kāneohe () is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaii state District of Koolaupoko on the island of Oahu. In the Hawaiian language, ''kāne ohe'' means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneohe or "bamboo man". The population was 37,430 at the 2020 census.
