Sea The Moon (foaled 27 January 2011) is a retired German Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2014 Deutsches Derby. He was trained by Markus Klug, and bred and owned by Gestut Görlsdorf. Sea The Stars (foaled 6 April 2006) is a retired champion Irish Thoroughbred racehorse regarded as one of the greatest racehorses of all time. He won the 2000 Guineas, the Derby, the Eclipse Stakes – the first colt to accomplish this treble since 1989 champion Nashwan – the International Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the same year. Sea The Stars is also a successful sire. Taghrooda
Taghrooda (foaled 27 January 2011) is an Irish bred British trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2014 she won the classic Oaks Stakes and went on to win Britain's premier weight-for-age race, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. She subsequently finished second in the Yorkshire Oaks and third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe before being retired at the end of the season. Background Taghrooda is a bay mare bred by her owner Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud. She is from the first crop of foals sired by Sea The Stars. Taghrooda's dam Ezima was a successful stayer who won four races including the Saval Beg Stakes. As a descendant of the broodmare Evisa, Ezima was closely related to the Ascot Gold Cup winners Enzeli and Estimate as well as the Irish Oaks winner Ebadiyla and a more distant relative of Darshaan, Sinndar, Acamas and Akiyda. Protectionist (foaled 2010) is a Thoroughbred racehorse bred and trained in Germany. He was bred by Christoph Berglar, and owned by Berglar in conjunction with an Australian syndicate. Protectionist was the winner of the 2014 Melbourne Cup, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by , and became the first German-trained horse to win the race. Background Protectionist was sired by Monsun, who also sired the 2013 Melbourne Cup winner, Fiorente. The Grosser Preis von Baden is a Group 1 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Baden-Baden over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early September. History The event was established in 1858, and it was originally contested over 3,200 metres. The inaugural running was part of a three-day festival which celebrated the opening of Baden-Baden's Iffezheim Racecourse. The race was shortened to 2,800 metres in 1887. Christophe Soumillon (born 4 June 1981) is a Belgian jockey based in France. Career Coming from a racing background, Soumillon is the son of jump jockey Jean-Marc Soumillon. He rode in pony races and left Belgium aged fifteen to go to the racing school in Chantilly, France, where he was then apprenticed to trainer Cédric Boutin. Soumillon rode his first Group race winner aged eighteen when Berine's Son, trained by André Fabre, won the 2000 Prix de Fontainebleau.
