Soap Scum
Soap scum or lime soap is the white solid composed of calcium stearate, magnesium stearate, and similar alkaline earth metal derivatives of fatty acids. These materials result from the addition of soap and other anionic surfactants to hard water. Hard water contains calcium and magnesium ions, which react with the surfactant anion to give these metallic or lime soaps.{{Ullmann, author=Angelo Nora, Alfred Szczepanek, Gunther Koenen, title=Metallic Soaps, year=2005, doi=10.1002/14356007.a16_361 :2 C17H35COO−Na+ + Ca2+ → (C17H35COO)2Ca + 2 Na+ In this reaction, the sodium cation in soap is replaced by calcium to form calcium stearate. Lime soaps build deposits on fibres, washing machines, and sinks. Synthetic surfactants are less susceptible to the effects of hard water. Most detergents contain builders that prevent the formation of lime soaps. See also * Water softening * Tadelakt, a form of lime-soap-based waterproof plaster * Qadad ''Qadad'' ( ''qaḍāḍ'') or '' ...

Scum (Napalm Death Album)
''Scum'' is the debut studio album by English grindcore band Napalm Death, released on 1 July 1987 by Earache Records. The two sides of the record were recorded by two different lineups in sessions separated by about a year; the only musician in both incarnations was drummer Mick Harris. The two sides are very different, and the two taken together serve to bridge stylistic elements of heavy metal and punk rock. While the songs on the A-side are influenced heavily by hardcore punk and anarcho-punk, the vocals and lower-tuned electric guitars on the B-side anticipate subsequent developments in extreme metal. Loudwire put it in the list of the best 10 metal albums of 1987. ''Scum'' sold over 10,000 copies in its first year of release, reaching number eight on the UK Indie chart. Since then, it has become known as a formative release in the grindcore genre. In 2005, ''Scum'' was voted the 50th best British album of all time by ''Kerrang!'' readers, and in 2009, it was ranked number ...

Project SCUM
Project SCUM was a plan proposed in 1995 by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJR) to sell cigarettes to members of the "alternative lifestyle" areas of San Francisco, in particular the large number of gay people in the Castro and homeless people in the Tenderloin. The acronym "SCUM" officially stood for "subculture urban marketing". Perhaps recognizing the offensive nature of its label, the marketing plan was later renamed Project Sourdough. Project An anti-smoking campaign called Truth targeted R. J. Reynolds for Project SCUM, arguing that it not only showed the usual exploitative tobacco marketing techniques but added to them an explicit contempt or even hatred for the people it was trying to market its products to. ''SF Weekly'' reported: "This is a hate crime, plain and simple," said Kathleen DeBold, director of the Washington, D.C.-based Mautner Project for Lesbians With Cancer. "What else do you call it when a group thinks of gays and lesbians as 'scum', and t ...

''No Joke!'' is the ninth studio album by the Meat Puppets. The album was released on October 3, 1995, by London Records. It was the follow-up to the band's album '' Too High to Die'' and was the last Meat Puppets album with bassist Cris Kirkwood (until his reunion on 2007's ''Rise to Your Knees'') and drummer Derrick Bostrom (until 2019's ''Dusty Notes''). A video was filmed for the song "Scum", directed by Dave Markey. Artwork The cover art "no joke" used on the album was originally created by Curt Kirkwood's daughter, which the band chose to use as the album's title and cover art. Music In September 2000, Al Shipley wrote that ''No Joke!'' had a "droning alt-metal sensibility". Reception Stephen Thomas Erlewine of ''AllMusic'' described ''No Joke!'' as an "average" Meat Puppets record, explaining that although the songs were "competent", it lacked the "wild spark" and "bizarre sense of humour" that characterised their 1980s work.
