Scottish Dance Theatre
Scottish Dance Theatre is a Scotland's national contemporary dance company based at Dundee Rep Theatre in Dundee, Scotland. It was founded by Royston Maldoom in 1986 as the Dundee Rep Dance Company. The Company The company is currently led by Artistic Director Joan Clevillé who took the role in April 2019. He returned to Scottish Dance Theatre after performing with the company 2009-2013. Fleur Darkin, who joined the company in 2011. His predecessors, Fleur Darkin and Janet Smith, led the company from 2011-2019 and 1997-2011 respectively. Each of the Artistic Directors have contributed to the company's choreographic repertoire. In 2003 SDT won the Critics' Circle National Dance Award for Outstanding Company Repertoire (Modern) and also won a Herald Angel Award for its performance of Liv Lorent's ''Luxuria'' at the 2005 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Emanuel Gat
Emanuel Gat is an Israeli choreographer of contemporary dance. Biography Emanuel Gat was born in 1969 in Israel. He discovered dance at the age of 23, after a workshop for amateurs, led by choreographer Nir Ben Gal. He started working at this period with Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal Company, as well as on his own projects. He created in 1994 his first solo, ''Four Dances'' on Bach’s music. In 2003, he received the Rosenblum Award for Performing Arts and in 2004, the Landau’s Award. In 2004, Emanuel Gat he founded his company, at Suzanne Dellal Center, ''Emanuel Gat Dance'' and also created ''Winter voyage'' and ''The Rite of Spring'' which premiered in France at Uzes Dance festival. Sharon Eyal
L-E-V Company is an Israeli dance and spectacle ensemble created by dancer Sharon Eyal and designer of multimedia events Gai Behar. History L-E-V (which means "heart" in Hebrew) mixes electronic music, techno, fashion and contemporary works into its productions. L-E-V has performed at venues in its native Israel (e.g. the Israel Festival in Jerusalem), the United States (e.g. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival), Europe, Canada and the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. Sharon Eyal, born in Jerusalem, danced with the Batsheva Dance Company from 1990 to 2008. She worked as a choreographer and associate artistic director from 2003-2004 and house choreographer from 2005-2012. Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and Europe. Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance. Due to its technical similarities, it is often perceived to be closely related to modern dance, ballet, and other classical concert dance styles.
