Scott Gregory (golfer)
Scott Samuel Gregory (born 1 October 1994) is an English professional golfer. He won the 2016 Amateur Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, beating Robert MacIntyre 2&1 in the final, becoming the first Hampshire-born player to win the Championship. Early career Gregory first began the game going to the driving range with his father when he was about five years old and took to the game right away. As he got older, he went to the local pitch and putt courses where he was able to develop his short game and scoring until he was good enough to progress onto a proper golf course. The next step came when he was eight years old when he joined his local course which is Portsmouth Golf Club where he first started playing competitive golf. He played in junior matches and got his first handicap of 28 when he was nine years old. Amateur Championship
The Amateur Championship (sometimes referred to as the British Amateur or British Amateur Championship outside the UK) is a golf tournament which has been held annually in the United Kingdom since 1885 except during the two World Wars, and in 1949 and 2019 when Ireland hosted the championship. It is one of the two leading individual tournaments for amateur golfers, alongside the U.S. Amateur. 2017 Walker Cup
The 46th Walker Cup Match was played September 9 and 10, 2017 at the Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, California. It was the second Walker Cup Match played in California, the previous occasion being in 1981 at Cypress Point Club. Great Britain and Ireland were the holders of the cup. The United States won the match 19 points to 7. Format On Saturday, there were four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. On Sunday, there were again four matches of foursomes in the morning, followed by ten singles matches (involving every player) in the afternoon. In all, 26 matches were played. Each of the 26 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. The 2016 European Amateur Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Golf de Chantilly, outside Paris, France. It was the 33rd men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1909. The Vineuil Course, situated in Chantilly, in the forest of the Hauts-de-France region of Northern France, 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of the center of Paris, close to the Château de Chantilly and Chantilly Racecourse, was originally designed by John Henry Taylor and later redesigned by Tom Simpson and Donald Steel. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply The Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside North America) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. The New South Wales Amateur Championship is the state amateur golf championship of New South Wales, Australia. It was first played in 1898. History In early 1898 Lord Hampden, the Governor of New South Wales, presented a solid silver cup to the Royal Sydney and The Australian golf clubs. The two clubs agreed that the cup would be presented to the winner of a 72-hole bogey competition, with 36 holes played on each of the two courses, and be regarded as the amateur championship of New South Wales. Entry was restricted to members of New South Wales clubs. The 1898 championship was won by Hugh MacNeil who finished 14 holes ahead of the runner-up Ted Simpson. MacNeil won again in 1899, this time by an even wider margin, 19 holes, over Simpson. MacNeil was absent in 1900 and the championship was won by Edward Bayly Macarthur by a single hole from Simpson. 2019 European Tour
The 2019 European Tour was the 48th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 11th edition of the Race to Dubai. The Race to Dubai was won by Spain's Jon Rahm, who was also named Golfer of the Year. Scotland's Robert MacIntyre was the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year.
