Scott Googins
Scott Googins is an American college baseball coach who was most recently the head coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Baseball Team. Googins was hired at Cincinnati on June 6, 2017 and resigned in May of 2023 following the conclusion of the Bearcats' 2023 season, shortly after multiple assistants were fired for failing to report a sports gambling scandal. He left Xavier after being the skipper of the Musketeers baseball team since the start of the 2006 season. Under Googins, Xavier appeared in three NCAA tournaments. In 2008, he was named the A-10 Coach of the Year, and in 2009, he was named the ABCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Googins is an alumnus of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he played baseball for the Battling Bishops. Big East Conference
The Big East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference that competes in NCAA Division I in ten men's sports and twelve women's sports. Headquartered in New York City, the eleven full-member schools are primarily located in Northeast and Midwest metropolitan areas. The conference was officially recognized as a Division I multi-sport conference on August 1, 2013, and since then conference members have won NCAA national championships in men's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, men's lacrosse, and men's soccer. 2008 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2008 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held from May 21–24 at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. It featured the top six regular-season finishers of the conference's 14 teams. Second-seeded Charlotte defeated Xavier in the title game to win the tournament for the second straight year, earning the A-10's automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Charlotte 49ers baseball team, commonly referred to as Charlotte, represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in NCAA Division I college baseball. Established in 1979, the team is a member of the Conference USA. Dan Simonds
Dan Simonds (born February 7, 1965) is an American baseball coach. He has served as a coach in the minor leagues, college, and amateur ranks. He is currently serving as director of baseball at IMG Academy. Playing career A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Simonds graduated from Barnstable High School, and played college baseball at Davidson College as a catcher. In 1984 and 1986, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and in 1985 he played for the New Market Rebels of the Valley Baseball League. He was selected in the 7th Round of the 1987 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Simonds played in the Orioles and Chicago Cubs organizations, reaching Triple-A. Tracy Smith (baseball)
Tracy Smith (born February 14, 1966) is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current head baseball coach of the Michigan Wolverines. He played college baseball at Miami (OH) from 1985 to 1988 for head coach Jon Pavlisko, before pursuing a professional career from 1988 to 1990. He then served as the head coach of the Miami RedHawks (1997–2005), the Indiana Hoosiers (2006–2014) and the Arizona State Sun Devils (2015–2021). Smith was the head coach of Indiana from 2006 to 2014, during which time the Hoosiers appeared in three NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the College World Series once. 1996 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 1996 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1996 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its fiftieth year. Eight regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event. Each region was composed of six teams, resulting in 48 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. Bob Morgan (baseball)
Robert G. Morgan (born 1947) is an American former baseball player and coach. As a player at Ohio University (Athens, OH) he never lost a game in his collegiate history. Robert was then drafted out of Ohio University to the Detroit Tigers. College Baseball
College baseball is baseball that is played on the intercollegiate level at institutions of higher education. In comparison to football and basketball, college competition in the United States plays a smaller role in developing professional players, as baseball's professional minor leagues are more extensive, with a greater history of supplying players to MLB. Moving directly from high school to the professional level is more common in baseball than in football or basketball. However, if players do opt to enroll at a four-year college to play baseball, they must complete three years to regain professional eligibility, unless they reach age 21 before starting their third year of college. Players who enroll at junior colleges (i.e., two-year institutions) regain eligibility after one year at that level.
