Scott Garrett (March 16, 1966, Washington, D.C.) is an American drummer. He is known as the drummer for Wired All Wrong and Coloursound, and as support drummer for J between 1997 and 2016. He was also temporary drummer at the last few shows of God Lives Underwater. Bands Garrett played with include Neverland, Pop's Cool Love, The Cult, The Mission UK and Dag Nasty. Biography Scott Garrett grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland. Before age 10 he began drumming under the tutelage of William Frank Reichenbach Sr. legendary jazz drummer for Charlie Byrd, the Stan Getz album '' Jazz Samba'', and co-developer of the jazz-samba drumming style and American wave of Bossa Nova enthusiasm. Pop's Cool Love
Pop's Cool Love was an American rock band from Los Angeles in the early 1990s, featuring multi-instrumentalist and street dancer Suga Pop, guitarist Mike Tyler, bassist Myles John O'Brien, keyboardist Jerry Cohen, and drummer Tal Bergman (later of Rock Candy Funk Party). They released the album ''A Man'' on Elektra Records in 1991, followed by a self-titled album in 1992. Their video for "Free Me" was directed by Tim Pope. The conga, also known as tumbadora, is a tall, narrow, single-headed drum from Cuba. Congas are staved like barrels and classified into three types: quinto (lead drum, highest), tres dos or tres golpes (middle), and tumba or salidor (lowest). Congas were originally used in Afro-Cuban music genres such as conga (hence their name) and rumba, where each drummer would play a single drum. A hi-hat (hihat, high-hat, etc.) is a combination of two cymbals and a pedal, all mounted on a metal stand. It is a part of the standard drum kit used by drummers in many styles of music including rock, pop, jazz, and blues. In music, syncopation is a variety of rhythms played together to make a piece of music, making part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat. More simply, syncopation is "a disturbance or interruption of the regular flow of rhythm": a "placement of rhythmic stresses or accents where they wouldn't normally occur". ''Jazz Samba'' is a bossa nova album by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd released by Verve Records in 1962. ''Jazz Samba'' signaled the beginning of the bossa nova craze in America. Stan Getz was the featured soloist and the tracks were arranged by Charlie Byrd, who had first heard bossa nova during a tour of Brazil in 1961. Getz and Byrd were accompanied by two bassists: Keter Betts and Joe Byrd, Charlie Byrd's brother who also played guitar. They were joined by two drummers: Buddy Deppenschmidt and Bill Reichenbach. The album was recorded at All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington, D.C. on February 13, 1962 and released in April of that year. Stanley Getz (February 2, 1927 – June 6, 1991) was an American jazz saxophonist. Playing primarily the tenor saxophone, Getz was known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, with his prime influence being the wispy, mellow timbre of his idol, Lester Young. Coming to prominence in the late 1940s with Woody Herman's big band, Getz is described by critic Scott Yanow as "one of the all-time great tenor saxophonists". Charlie Byrd
Charlie Lee Byrd (September 16, 1925 – December 2, 1999) was an American jazz guitarist. Byrd was best known for his association with Brazilian music, especially bossa nova. In 1962, he collaborated with Stan Getz on the album '' Jazz Samba'', a recording which brought bossa nova into the mainstream of North American music. Byrd played fingerstyle on a classical guitar.
