Scott Firth
Scott Firth (born 1 April 1969) is a British bass guitar player, guitarist and record producer. He is the current bass player in Public Image Ltd, playing on their 2012 album, '' This is PiL''. and 2015 album '' What the World Needs Now...''. Career Firth previously played with the Spice Girls on their Return of the Spice Girls Tour, as well as Melanie C, Joan Armatrading, Morcheeba, Steve Winwood, John Martyn, Little Axe, Ruby, Toni Braxton, Elvis Costello, Mari Wilson, Julia Fordham and Sarah Jane Morris. Firth also has his own jazz band, U-sonic, with Miles Bould. Career Early career Grounded in blues music learned from his father, a steel worker who played blues guitar at weekends, McDonald spent his early days playing jazz, doo-wop, and gospel, and eventually relocated to New York City as a teenager with his band of friends, called The Entertainers. McDonald formed the group Wood Brass & Steel in 1973 with bass guitarist Doug Wimbish and drummer Harold Sargent. The group recorded two albums before their 1979 breakup. Music Of Black Origin Awards
The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin, also known as the MOBOs) are an annual British music award presentation honouring achievements in " music of black origin", including hip hop, grime, UK Drill, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music. The MOBO Organisation was founded by Kanya King, and the first MOBO award was presented to Baby D, in the Best Dance Act category. The inaugural awards were broadcast by Carlton Television from London's Connaught Rooms. Across its 22-year history, the MOBOs have been broadcast on Channel 4, BBC Television, ITV2 and on Channel 5 before returning to the BBC in 2020. In 2009, the ceremony was held for the first time in Glasgow. Prior to that, it had been held in London. In 2011, the ceremony returned for a second time to Scotland. Sarah Jane Morris (singer)
Sarah Jane Morris (born 21 March 1959) is an English singer of pop, jazz, rock and R&B and a songwriter. Biography In 1982, Morris joined The Republic as lead singer. A London-based Afro-Caribbean-Latin band, they received enormous publicity from the music press including cover stories with ''NME'' and ''City Limits'' and a documentary for Granada TV. But the band was deemed too political for radio play, with the exception of Capital Radio. The Republic were signed to Charlie Gillett's Oval Records Ltd and released an EP entitled ''Three Songs From The Republic'' and two singles entitled "One Chance" and "My Spies". Success did not follow and the band split up in 1984. Morris then sang with The Happy End, a 21-piece brass band named after Bertolt Brecht, Elisabeth Hauptmann and Kurt Weill's musical play. Julia Fordham (born 10 August 1962) is a British singer-songwriter. Her professional career started in the early 1980s, under the name "Jules Fordham", as a backing singer for Mari Wilson and Kim Wilde, before signing a recording contract of her own later that decade. Fordham is now based in California. Career 1980s In 1988, Fordham released her first album on Circa Records, simply titled '' Julia Fordham''. After a round of publicity including an appearance on the BBC1 ''Wogan'' chat show in April 1988, it reached No. 20 in the UK Albums Chart and eventually earned a gold disc. Mari Macmillan Ramsay Wilson (born 29 September 1954, Neasden, London) is a British pop and jazz singer. She is best known for her 1982 UK top-10 hit single "Just What I Always Wanted" and her 1960s image complete with beehive hairstyle. Career Recording on Compact Records with her backing band The Wilsations, Wilson scored six UK hit singles between 1982 and 1984. Her biggest hit, "Just What I Always Wanted" peaked at No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart in 1982.
