Scott Derrickson
Scott Derrickson (born July 16, 1966) is an American filmmaker. He is best known for directing the films '' The Exorcism of Emily Rose'' (2005), ''The Day the Earth Stood Still'' (2008), '' Sinister'' (2012), '' Deliver Us from Evil'' (2014), '' Doctor Strange'' (2016), and ''The Black Phone'' (2021). Early life Derrickson grew up in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Biola University with a B.A. in Humanities with an emphasis in philosophy and literature and a B.A. in communications with an emphasis in film and theology. He completed his graduate studies at USC School of Cinema-Television. Career Derrickson co-wrote and directed '' The Exorcism of Emily Rose'', which was loosely based on a true story about Anneliese Michel. ''Deliver Us from Evil'' is a 2014 American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film claims to be based on a 2001 non-fiction book entitled ''Beware the Night'' by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool, and its marketing campaign highlighted that it was "inspired by actual accounts", however the plot is an original piece written by director Derrickson. Anneliese Michel
Anna Elisabeth "Anneliese" Michel (21 September 1952 – 1 July 1976) was a German woman who underwent 67 Catholic exorcism rites during the year before her death. She died of malnutrition, for which her parents and priest were convicted of negligent homicide. She was diagnosed with epileptic psychosis (temporal lobe epilepsy) and had a history of psychiatric treatment that proved ineffective. When Michel was 16, she experienced a seizure and was diagnosed with psychosis caused by temporal lobe epilepsy. Lisa Collier Cool (6 July 1952) is an American journalist and author who writes on health-related topics. Education Born Lisa Collier, Cool began collegiate studies in the early 1970s at Shimer College. She later transferred to Columbia University in New York, where she graduated in 1975. Career Cool worked as a literary agent prior to becoming a full-time freelance, magazine article writer in 1984. Several of her subsequent books drew on her insights as an agent. Ralph Sarchie (14 June 1962, New York City) is a retired NYPD sergeant and traditionalist Catholic demonologist. He has written a book, ''Beware the Night'', which details many of his paranormal investigations; his accounts were later the basis of the film ''Deliver Us from Evil''. Sarchie, in 2016, was featured in the film ''Hostage to the Devil'', which detailed the life of Malachi Martin.
