Scott Baker (racing Driver)
Scott Mitchell Baker (April 30, 1957 – June 23, 2000) was a racecar driver on the ARCA circuit. Life and career Baker was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1957 and graduated from Saugatuck High School in Saugatuck, Michigan, in 1975. He served in the United States Navy for six years prior to his race-driving career. Death Baker died on June 23, 2000, after a crash in the Jasper Engines & Transmissions 150, an ARCA race at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio. Late in the race, Baker was running in the 8th position when he made contact with Joe Cooksey which spun Baker into a tire barrier made of tractor tires. Automobile Racing Club Of America
The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is an auto racing sanctioning body in the United States, founded in 1953 by John Marcum. The current president of ARCA is Ron Drager, who took over the position in 1996 following the death of Bob Loga. The ARCA Menards Series races stock cars similar to those seen in past years in the NASCAR Cup Series, and indeed most cars used in the Menards Series were previously used in NASCAR. ARCA's competitors contain a mix of both professional racers and hobby racers alike, in addition to younger competitors trying to make a name for themselves, sometimes driving as part of a driver development program for a NASCAR team. Saugatuck, Michigan
Saugatuck is a city in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 865 at the 2020 census. The city is within Saugatuck Township, but is administratively autonomous. Originally a lumber town and port, Saugatuck, along with the adjacent city of Douglas, became a noted art colony and tourist destination in the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, Saugatuck was home to the famous Big Pavilion, a large dance hall that attracted bands and visitors from across the Midwest. The building was a popular destination on Lake Michigan from its construction in 1909 until it burned down on May 6, 1960. Toledo Speedway
Toledo Speedway is a half-mile paved oval racetrack located in Toledo, Ohio, United States. It is owned jointly by Roy Mott and ARCA President Ron Drager. It is operated by ARCA and run as the sister track to Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan. History Toledo Speedway opened in 1960 and was paved in 1964. In 1978 it was sold to Thomas "Sonny" Adams Sr. The speedway was reacquired by ARCA in 1999. The track also features the weekly racing divisions of sportsman on the half-mile and Figure 8, factory stock, and four cylinders on a quarter-mile track inside the big track. They also have a series of races with outlaw-bodied late models that includes four 100-lap races and ends with Glass City 200. Joe Cooksey
Joe Cooksey (born June 11, 1966) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competed in the ARCA Menards Series from 1996 to 2022, and has 57 top-10 finishes and one pole position. He also has run three races in the NASCAR Busch Series and one race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Racing career Cooksey first made his ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series debut in 1996 driving the No. 41 Chevrolet that he owned at Salem Speedway, where he would finish 22nd due to a rear end issue. He would make eight more starts that year and would earn four to-10's, including a best result of sixth at Indianapolis Raceway Park. In the following year, he would run twelve races, mainly in the No. 51 Chevrolet, and would earn four more top-10's with a best result of seventh at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds Racetrack, and finished 12th in the overall standings. Frank Kimmel
Francis James Kimmel (born April 30, 1962) is an American former stock car racing driver. He competed primarily in the ARCA Racing Series, from 1990 through 2016. Kimmel is the most successful driver in ARCA history. He has won the ARCA championship ten times, including eight consecutive. He won the championship in 1998 and also won the 2000 through 2007 championships, and again in 2013. Kimmel is currently the general manager for KBR Development, which fields the No. 28 Chevrolet in the ARCA Series. From after the end of his driving career in 2017 through 2019, he returned to Venturini Motorsports (the team he drove for part-time in 2015) as a crew chief and a driving coach for their drivers, such as Leilani Munter, Gavin Harlien, and Hailie Deegan.
