Scotchmans Lead, Victoria
Scotchmans Lead, a rural locality 6 km (3.7 statute miles) from Buninyong, in South Western Victoria, Australia, sits between the Yarrowee River, Midland Highway and Scotchmans Lead Road. It has recently been renamed Scotchmans Lead from Yarrowee, after a proposal by the Ballarat City Council to change its name back to its historic days. Scotchmans Lead was once a prominent mining area and farming area, with many properties still rearing animals such as cows and horses. Electoral District Of Eureka
The Electoral district of Eureka is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2021, and came into effect at the 2022 Victorian state election. It largely covers the area of the abolished district of Buninyong, covering the east and southeast suburbs of Ballarat, including the suburbs of Eureka, Brown Hill, Ballarat East, Golden Point, Canadian, Mount Pleasant, Mount Clear, Mount Helen and Buninyong. It also covers large parts of the Golden Plains Shire and Moorabool Shire areas, including the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Meredith, Lethbridge, Teesdale and Inverleigh. The Division of Ballarat (spelt Ballaarat from 1901 until the 1977 election) is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It was named for the provincial city of the same name by Scottish squatter Archibald Yuille, who established the first settlement − his sheep run called Ballaarat − in 1837, with the name derived from a local Wathawurrung word for the area, ''balla arat'', thought to mean "resting place". Buninyong, Victoria
Buninyong is a town 11 km from Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. The town is on the Midland Highway, south of Ballarat on the road to Geelong. Buninyong was proclaimed a town on 27 June 1851 on the same day as Winchelsea, Portarlington, Longwood, Avenel, Cavendish, Euroa and Gisborne. All were preceded by Benalla and Wangaratta that were proclaimed on 7 and 11 April 1849 respectively. Gold was reported "within a mile or two of the township of Buninyong" on 12 August 1851.
