Iredell County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 186,693. Its county seat is Statesville, and its largest town is Mooresville. Turnersburg Township is a nonfunctioning administrative division in northeastern Iredell County, North Carolina, United States. Turnersburg township was established in 1868. The only major town in Turnersburg township is Harmony, which is also partially within Eagle Mills township. Geography Turnersburg township is bordered on the north by Eagle Mills and Union Grove townships, on the west by Olin township, on the south by Cool Springs township, and on the east by Davie County. Cleveland Township is one of fourteen non-functioning county subdivisions (townships) in Rowan County, North Carolina that were established in 1868. The township had a population of 2,817 according to the 2010 census. The only incorporated municipality in Cleveland Township is the town of Cleveland. Residents are served by the Rowan–Salisbury School System and the township is home to Mt Ulla Elementary School. History In 1831, the first post office in the general vicinity of present-day Cleveland was established. It was named Cowansville. Mount Vernon is a historic plantation house, farm complex, and national historic district located near Woodleaf, in Scotch Irish Township, Rowan County, North Carolina. The house was built about 1822, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style frame dwelling. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a full-width, one-story shed roofed porch. The house was designated a post office in 1822. Also on the property are the contributing log smokehouse, large barn (c. 1898), "lighthouse" or Delco house (c. 1917), corn crib (c. 1917), gear house (c. 1917), woodhouse (c. 1917), spring house, mill site, shop, and plantation office. James Graham Ramsay
James Graham Ramsay (March 1, 1823 – January 10, 1903) was a North Carolina physician and politician who served in the North Carolina Senate and Confederate States Congress during the American Civil War. Biography Ramsay was born on his parents' (David Ramsay and Margaret Foster (Graham) Ramsay) plantation in the Coddle Creek area of Iredell County, North Carolina. He received an education from local schools and then attended Davidson College, where he graduated in 1841. After teaching for a year and studying privately for medical school, he attended Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia where he graduated with a medical degree in 1848. He opened a medical practice on his estate, Palermo, near the town of Cleveland, North Carolina, where he practiced for 51 years. Rowan–Salisbury School System
The Rowan-Salisbury School System (also called Rowan-Salisbury Schools or for short RSS) is a PK– 12 graded school district in North Carolina covering nearly all of Rowan County including the city of Salisbury. The second largest employer in the county, the system's 35 schools serve 20,000 students as of 2013–2014. Salisbury split off from the original county-wide system in 1921, but merged back into the county system in 1989. Josh Wagner chairs the seven-member Board of Education while Dr. Tony Watlington serves as the sixth superintendent of the combined system.
