Scot MacDonald
Scot MacDonald (born 15 February 1961) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2011 to 2019. MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Financial Administration and a Masters of Environmental Management from the University of New England. Prior to NSW Parliament, MacDonald was an Executive Officer at Riverina Citrus. He also served on the State Executive of the NSW Liberal Party for 10 years as Country Vice-President. He was a member of numerous committees including GPSC5 which is notable for its Inquiry into Coal Seam Gas. He has also served on a wide range of Inquries, such as the Management of Public Lands, Corrective Services, Racial Vilification, and Valuer General. New South Wales Legislative Council
The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate. Members serve eight-year terms, which are staggered, with half the Council being elected every four years, roughly coinciding with elections to the Legislative Assembly. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. The party currently governs in New South Wales in coalition with the National Party of Australia (NSW). The party is part of the federal Liberal Party which is in opposition nationally. Following the Liberal Party's formation in October 1944, the NSW division of the Liberal Party was formed in January 1945. For the following months, the Democratic Party and Liberal Democratic Party joined the Liberal Party and were replaced by the new party's NSW division. The University of New England (UNE) is a public university in Australia with approximately 22,500 higher education students. Its original and main campus is located in the city of Armidale in northern central New South Wales. UNE was the first Australian university established outside a state capital city. Each year, the university offers students more than $5 million in scholarships, prizes, and bursaries and more than $18 million for staff and students involved in research. The Valuer General of New South Wales oversees the land valuation system of New South Wales. The Valuer General is responsible for standards and policy in relation to the land valuation system and determining compensation for the acquisition of properties and monitors the quality of the value of land and services to the community by Property NSW. The Office of the Valuer General provides day-to-day support to the Valuer General.
