Scientology Front Groups
The Church of Scientology uses front groups to promote its interests in politics, to make itself appear legitimate, and to recruit. Many of the groups are founded on pseudoscience, named disingenuously, and underplay their links to Scientology. According to Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi, "The majority of activities conducted by Scientology and its many fronts and subsidiaries involve the marketing of secular products such as the "Clear" program, Sterling Management Systems executive training, and self-improvement in scholastics." Some Scientology products are defined as religious in one setting but secular in another. For example, Study Technology is sold in Churches of Scientology but is also taught in some schools under claims of being secular and non-religious. Citizens For An Alternative Tax System
Citizens for an Alternative Tax System (CATS) is a national tax reform public interest group in the United States. Their Las Vegas chapter proposes "that Congress should eliminate the IRS and all income taxes, corporate and personal; estate, gift and inheritance taxes, plus many excise taxes; replacing them with a single-rate tax on consumption—a national retail sales tax. According to sources, CATS was founded by Steven L. Hayes and shares a similar mission to national retail sales tax (NRST) and FairTax proponents such as John McCain, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, Duncan L. Hunter, Mike Gravel, John Lindner and Saxby Chambliss. A German Akademie is a school or college, trade school or another educational institution. The word Akademie (unlike the words Gymnasium or Universität) is not protected by law and any school or college may choose to call itself Akademie. A Sommerakademie (Summer Akademie) is a programme that teaches different groups of children or grown-ups usually during the summer month. Sometimes those programmes are remedial in nature. Criminon
Criminon is a program for rehabilitating prisoners using L. Ron Hubbard's teachings. Criminon International, a non-profit, public-benefit corporation managing the Criminon program, was spawned from Narconon International in 2000, and is part of Association for Better Living and Education's public outreach programs. Criminon is promoted by the Church of Scientology International. Independent experts contend that methods used by the program are not supported by any scientific studies. Second Chance, another prison-based rehabilitation program for inmates, is closely related to Criminon, from which it licenses the techniques and materials used in its program. Criminon is said to be a prison-based version of Narconon, as the Purification Rundown detoxification and training procedures are a part of both programs.
