German Surname
Personal names in German-speaking Europe consist of one or several given names (''Vorname'', plural ''Vornamen'') and a surname (''Nachname, Familienname''). In 1834, he was commissioned to decorate Ludwig I of Bavaria, King Ludwig's new palace with wall paintings illustrating the works of the poet Tieck.
