Schwarzwald-Baar () is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the south of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Ortenaukreis, Rottweil, Tuttlingen, Constance, the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen, and the districts Waldshut, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen. History The district was created in 1973, when the districts of Donaueschingen and Villingen were merged. Geography The district got its name from the two predominant landscapes in the district. Donaueschingen
Donaueschingen (; Low Alemannic: ''Eschinge'') is a German town in the Black Forest in the southwest of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in the Schwarzwald-Baar '' Kreis''. It stands near the confluence of the two sources of the river Danube (in german: Donau). Donaueschingen stands in a basin within low mountainous terrain. It is located about south of Villingen-Schwenningen, west of Tuttlingen, and about north of the Swiss town of Schaffhausen. In 2015 the population was 21,750, making it the second largest town in the district (''Kreis'') of Schwarzwald-Baar. It is a regional rail hub. Geography Donaueschingen lies in the Baar basin in the southern Black Forest at the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers—the two source tributaries of the Danube—from which the town gets its name. Dauchingen
Dauchingen is a municipality in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. History Some of the earliest evidence of human habitation of the area of Dauchingen are Roman and suggest a ''villa rustica'' from between the years 88 to 138 AD. The first settlements in the area however are Alemanni and dates to 270 AD. The first documentation of a settlement at Dauchingen comes from 1092 and refers to it "Tuchingen", a property of St. George's Abbey in the Black Forest. Ownership of Dauchingen passed to the Duchy of Zähringen, whose ruling house went extinct in 1218, and then to the , and then to County of Fürstenberg. In 1405, the Fürstenbergs renounced their claim to Dauchingen in favor of the County of Zollern. The town was sold in 1479 by Gregor von Roggwil of Constance to the Free Imperial City of Rottweil. Vöhrenbach
Vöhrenbach is a town in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated on the river Breg (river), Breg, 12 km west of Villingen-Schwenningen. Geography The town of Vöhrenbach lies in the Breg valley in the central Black Forest between Furtwangen im Schwarzwald, Furtwangen and Villingen-Schwenningen. The land belonging to the town is heavily forested, comprising 77% of the total area. Neighboring communities The town borders St. Georgen im Schwarzwald to the north; Villingen-Schwenningen, Unterkirnach and Donaueschingen to the east; Bräunlingen and Eisenbach (Hochschwarzwald), Eisenbach in the south; Titisee-Neustadt to the southwest; and Furtwangen to the west. Königsfeld Im Schwarzwald
Königsfeld im Schwarzwald ( Low Alemannic: ''Kinnigsfeld'') is a town in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It is the northernmost town of the district Schwarzwald Baar. Königsfeld has six boroughs (Königsfeld, Neuhausen, Erdmannsweiler, Buchenberg, Burgberg and Weiler). Founded in 1807, it is a centre of the Moravian Church. Until after the Second World War, most of the town's inhabitants continued to be Moravians and the ''Vorsteher'' (congregational business manager) of the Congregation also served as ''de facto'' Mayor of the town. After the war, great numbers of refugees from former eastern provinces of Germany settled in the town. Königsfeld is on several major bus lines, the next train stations are in St. Georgen and Villingen-Schwenningen. Regional bus lines connect Königsfeld to these towns. Hüfingen (Low Alemannic: ''Hifinge'') is a town in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated on the river Breg, 4 km south of the source of the Danube. History Hüfingen has the historical distinction of once marking the boundary of the Roman empire. In the first century of the common era, imperial policy settled on using the natural boundaries formed by the Danube and the Rhine rivers. Because of its proximity to the source of the Danube in nearby Donaueschingen, Hüfingen was the site of a Roman fort, Brigobanne, built to implement this policy. Furtwangen im Schwarzwald (; Low Alemannic: ''Furtwange im Schwarzwald'') is a small city located in the Black Forest region of southwestern Germany. Together with Villingen-Schwenningen, Furtwangen is part of the district (German: Kreis) of Schwarzwald-Baar. Geography Furtwangen is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park in the Southeastern Black Forest, around 25 kilometers west of the district town of Villingen-Schwenningen and around 27 kilometers northeast of Freiburg. Furtwangen is the highest town in Baden-Württemberg. Between 850 m and 1,150 m above sea level, it lies in the upper Bregtal of the Central Black Forest in the headwaters of the Danube.
