Halvor Schou
Halvor Arntzen Schou (11 May 1823 – 5 February 1879) was a Norwegian industrialist. He was the founder of the Hjula Væveri weaving mill in Oslo. Biography Halvor Schou was born in Christiania (now Oslo, Norway). He was a son of Christian Schou (1792–1874) and Birgitte Halvordine Ramm (1796–1877). His father established Schous Brewery (''Schous bryggeri'') in 1837. He attended Oslo Cathedral School and later traveled to Lübeck to attend a trade school. He returned in 1842 and first worked for the Schou Brewery. When his father died in 1874, he took over operation of the brewery. By 1841, the United Kingdom began exporting steam engines and weaving machines. Schou founded the weaving mill Hjula Væveri (built from 1854 to 1856), which exploited the waterfall Hjulafossen on the Akerselva. Christian Schou
Christian Schou (13 December 1792 – 15 September 1874) was a Norwegian merchant, brewer and politician. Biography He was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of Didrik Hansen Schou (1744–1795) and Anna Ludovica Wittrog. His father died when he was quite young and he was raised by a relative. Schou established trading license at Christiania in 1822 and ran a farmer's shop at Grønland. He also operated a vinegar distillery and liquor store. In 1834, he acquired the Vestre Sinsen farm and ran a dairy. In 1837 he bought Jørgen Young's brewery in Fjerdingen, which he converted to Schou Brewery. Schou owned property along the Akerselva and utilized areas closest to the river for expansion of the brewery. Schou became a member of the first presidency of Christiania in 1837. Peter Alfred Schou (known as P.A. Schou; 8 October 1844 – 21 November 1914) was a Danish painter. Biography He was born at Copenhagen to a family of merchants from Slagelse shortly after their arrival in Copenhagen. He was the brother of Ludvig Abelin Schou. Originally, he chose to follow his father into business and attended a trade school. Mogens Schou (24 November 1918 – 29 September 2005) was a Denmark, Danish psychiatrist whose research into Lithium pharmacology, lithium led to its utilization as a treatment for bipolar disorder. Early years Schou was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 24 November 1918. His father was a psychiatrist and medical director of a large mental hospital. Schou chose to study medicine with a specific view to doing research on manic-depressive illness (now more commonly referred to as bipolar disorder). He graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Copenhagen in 1944. After his training in clinical psychiatry he also studied experimental biology. Research Schou's research interests focused on therapeutic uses of lithium for patients with mood disorders. A Friend in London was a Danish pop rock and rock band that represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany, with the song "New Tomorrow" and took fifth place in the final with 134 points. The group announced their split in 2014. Career A Friend in London (also known by its acronym AFIL) was formed in 2005 when the band members were at a boarding school in Vostrup, Denmark. The lead singer, Tim Schou, won the contest Danish Young Talent 2005 which led to the recording of the band's first single, "Thoughts of a Boheme". Einar Oscar Schou ( 4 June 1877 - 28 December 1966) was a Norwegian architect. He is most noted for his design of Den Nationale Scene in Bergen, Norway. Background Einar Oscar Schou was born in Oslo, Kristiania, Norway. He studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry, Royal Drawing School from 1898 to 1901. He was assistant to the architect Halfdan Berle in Oslo from 1899-1901. He studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm between 1901-1903. After graduation, he became head of the Agi Lindgren architectural firm in Stockholm and was there for three years. Ingjerd Schou, née Schie (born 20 January 1955) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. Born in Sarpsborg, Schou was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Østfold in 2001. Ludvig Abelin Schou, known as L.A. Schou (11 January 1838, in Slagelse – 30 September 1867, in Florence), was a Danish Romantic painter, the older brother of Peter Alfred Schou. Biography He was born to a family of merchants. When he was six, they moved to Copenhagen. At the age of eighteen, he passed the journeyman test to enter the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Frida Maria Schou (1891–1980) was an early Danish businesswoman. Despite lifelong dyslexia, from 1928 to 1967 she ran Knabstrup Teglværk, a brick and porcelain factory near Holbæk in western Zealand. At the time, it was quite unusual for a woman to head such a large industrial establishment. She is remembered for her energetic and efficient leadership and for her concern for the well-being of a workforce of up to 160 employees. In addition, she was a board member of another brick factory, Skandinavisk Molerindustri on the island of Mors (1946–1970), serving seven years as chair. Julius Schou
Sergeant Julius Alexis Schou (July 17, 1849 – November 19, 1929) was an American soldier in the U.S. Army who served with the 22nd U.S. Infantry during the Sioux Wars. During the Great Sioux War of 1876, Schou risked his life volunteering to carry dispatches from commanders in the field to Fort Buford.
