Heinrich Wilhelm Schott
Heinrich Wilhelm Schott (7 January 1794 in Brünn (Brno), Moravia – 5 March 1865 at Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna) was an Austrian botanist well known for his extensive work on aroids (Araceae). He studied botany, agriculture and chemistry at the University of Vienna, where he was a pupil of Joseph Franz von Jacquin (1766–1839). He was a participant in the Austrian Brazil Expedition from 1817 to 1821. In 1828 he was appointed ''Hofgärtner'' (royal gardener) in Vienna, later serving as director of the Imperial Gardens at Schönbrunn Palace (1845). In 1852 he was in charge of transforming part of palace gardens in the fashion of an English garden. He also enriched the Viennese court gardens with his collections from Brazil. He was also interested in Alpine flora, and was responsible for development of the alpinum at Schloss Belvedere in Vienna. Toyman
The Toyman is the name of three supervillains and one adolescent superhero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, mostly as an adversary for Superman. The most well-known incarnation of the Toyman is Winslow Percival Schott, a criminal who uses toy-based or toy-themed devices and gimmicks in his various crimes. The Toyman made frequent appearances in the Golden Age comics, but has appeared infrequently in ''Superman'' stories since then. Penelope Schott
Penelope Scambly Schott is a feminist poet and former professor of English at Raritan Valley Community College and Rutgers University. She has published several books of poetry and has taught poetry writing for Thomas Edison State College. At Educational Testing Service in the 1980s she was part of the Guidance Research Group, which developed the SIGI PLUS career information system. Schott is a recipient of the 2004 Turning Point Poetry Prize, the Orphic Prize, and a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She now resides in Portland, Oregon. Otto Schott
Friedrich Otto Schott (1851–1935) was a German chemist, glass technologist, and the inventor of borosilicate glass. Schott systematically investigated the relationship between the chemical composition of the glass and its properties. In this way, he solved fundamental problems in glass properties, identifying compositions with optical properties that approach the theoretical limit. Schott's findings were a major advance in the optics for microscopy and optical astronomy. His work has been described as "a watershed in the history of glass composition". Early life and education Schott was the son of a window glass maker, Simon Schott. His mother was Karoline Schott. Margaret Carolyn Schott (née Unnewehr; August 18, 1928 – March 2, 2004) was an American baseball executive. Serving as managing general partner, president and CEO of Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds franchise from 1984 to 1999, she was the second woman to own a North American major-league team without inheriting it, after New York Mets founder Joan Whitney Payson. Helena Cécile Ernstone, ''(née'' Hélène Cecilia Schott; circa 1841 Gibraltar – 2 July 1933 Ferndown, Dorset, England) was an English actress who appeared in London theatres from 1867 to 1881. George Adolphus Schott
George Adolphus Schott (also referenced as George Augustus Schott) FRS (25 January 1868 – 15 July 1937) was a British mathematician. He is best known for developing the full theory of radiation from electrons travelling at close to the speed of light. Born in Bradford to German parents, he was educated at Bradford Grammar School and later studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1890. After obtaining his Doctor of Science he became assistant lecturer to D.M. Lewis in the Department of Physics. After a years leave, in which he travelled to Germany, he became lecturer of Applied Mathematics at Aberystwyth University, where he would spend the rest of his career. In 1910 he became Chair of the Applied Mathematics department and finally vice-president of the college. Anselm Schott OSB born September 5, 1843 in Staufeneck, municipality of Salach; died April 23, 1896 in Maria Laach, was a German Benedictine monk. Charles Anthony Schott
Charles Anthony Schott (August 7, 1826 – July 31, 1901) was a German-American scientist. Biography Charles Anthony Schott was born at Mannheim, Baden, Germany on August 7, 1826. In 1847 he was graduated from the Polytechnic School, at Karlsruhe. The following year he came to America and entered the Coast and Geodetic Survey. In 1853 he received his naturalization papers as an American citizen, and in 1856 he was promoted to the grade of an assistant in the service.
