School Of Air Power Studies
The School of Air Power Studies is the premier training institution of the Namibian Air Force. History At the onset of the formation of the Namibian Defence Force Air Wing there was no capacity to train Pilots and maintenance technicians. An agreement with the Namibian Aviation Training Academy was forged. The academy was responsible for providing flight training to aspirant and maintenance training to aspirant technicians. President Hifikepunye Pohamba Inaugurated the School on 13 February 2015. The school was set up in stages the first phase was the Aircraft Technical Training Centre. Location The school is located at the Grootfontein Air Force Base. For vocational training the initial phase is carried out at Eros Airport in Windhoek. Training The school is set up in three Wings. The Namibian Air Force is the aerial warfare branch of the Namibian Defence Force. It was commissioned on 13 March 2005 at Grootfontein Air Force Base. Accessed 2007/07/27 Following the independence of Namibia from South Africa in 1990, the Air Defence Wing of the Namibian Defence Force was established on 23 July 1994. Grootfontein Air Force Base
Grootfontein Air Force Base is an air base of the Namibian Air Force in Grootfontein, a city in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. The air base is about south of the center of Grootfontein. It was formerly an air base for the South African Air Force. It was also the headquarters of the Namibian Air Force until these were moved to Karibib Air Force Base in 2016. Hifikepunye Pohamba
Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba (born 18 August 1936) is a Namibian politician who served as the second president of Namibia from 21 March 2005 to 21 March 2015. He won the 2004 presidential election overwhelmingly as the candidate of SWAPO, and was reelected in 2009. Pohamba was the president of SWAPO from 2007 until his retirement in 2015. He is a recipient of the Ibrahim Prize. Prior to his presidency, Pohamba served in various ministerial positions, beginning at Namibia's independence in 1990. Eros Airport or Windhoek Eros Airport is an airport serving Windhoek, the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in the Khomas Region, about south of Windhoek's central business district and was a secondary hub for Air Namibia. Operations Eros is a busy hub of general aviation and some commercial aviation, which includes Wilderness Air, Bay Air, Westair Aviation, Scenic Air. The airport is one of the busiest airports in the SADC region. It is the host to commercial, private, and scheduled traffic ranging from high performance jet aircraft to Cessna 152 trainers.
