School For Wives (film)
''School for Wives'' is a 1925 American silent film, silent drama film directed by Victor Halperin and starring Conway Tearle, Sigrid Holmquist, and Peggy Kelly. It provided an early role for the future star Brian Donlevy. Based on Leonard Merrick's 1907 melodramatic novel ''The House of Lynch'', it was not well-received by critics. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a rich young woman marries a poor English artist who refuses to accept her father's tainted money. The artist lives up to his ideals, which precipitates a conflict. He is forced to accept a sum which permits their son to have an operation. After the wife gives up on her father's money through learning that it has no place in the scheme of happiness, she is reconciled to her husband. They live happily. Victor Halperin
Victor Hugo Halperin (August 24, 1895 in Chicago, Illinois – May 17, 1983 in Bentonville, Arkansas) was an American stage actor, stage director, film director, film producer, producer, and writer. The majority of his works involved romance film, romance and horror film, horror. His brother, with whom he collaborated, was producer Edward Halperin (May 12, 1898 – March 2, 1981). Biography Victor Halperin began his career as a filmmaker in 1922, working as a writer on ''The Danger Point'' (an original story). In two years, he was working as a writer-producer-director on the Agnes Ayres film, ''When a Girl Loves''. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Frederick Tyrone Edmond Power Sr. (2 May 1869 – 23 December 1931) was an English-born American stage and screen actor, known professionally as Tyrone Power. He is now usually referred to as Tyrone Power Sr. to differentiate him from his son, actor Tyrone Power. Early life Power was born in London in 1869, the son of Harold Littledale Power and Ethel Lavenu. Harold had worked as a singer and actor before his marriage, most notably in Edmund Yates' production ''Invitations'' at the Egyptian Hall, London, 1862–63. Mary Carr
Mary Carr (née Kenevan; March 14, 1874 – June 24, 1973), was an American film actress and was married to the actor William Carr. She appeared in more than 140 films between 1915 and 1956. She was given some of filmdoms plum mother roles in silent pictures, especially Fox's 1920 ''Over the Hill to the Poorhouse'' which was a great success. She was interred in Calvary Cemetery. Carr bore a strong resemblance to Lucy Beaumont, another famous character actress of the time who specialized in mother roles. As older actresses such as Mary Maurice and Anna Townsend passed on, Carr, still in her forties, seem to inherit all the matriarchal roles in silent films.
