St Helens () is a town in Merseyside, England, with a population of 102,629. It is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, which had a population of 176,843 at the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 Census. Gordon Scholes
Gordon Glen Denton Scholes AO (7 June 1931 – 9 December 2018) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and served in the House of Representatives from 1967 to 1993, representing the Division of Corio. He served terms as Speaker of the House of Representatives (1975–1976), Minister for Defence (1983–1984), and Minister for Territories (1984–1987). Early life Scholes was born on 7 June 1931 in West Melbourne, Victoria. He was the only child of Mary Louisa (née O'Brien) and Thomas Glen Denton Scholes; his father was a railway worker and his mother was a psychiatric nurse. Scholes had a turbulent childhood. He spent two long periods in hospital, once at the age of three following a car accident and again at the age of fourteen following a bout of rheumatic fever. Roger Scholes (11 December 1950 – 3 June 2022) was an Australian independent film and television maker from 1983 on. He worked as a producer, director, writer, script editor, cinematographer, and editor in drama and documentary projects for cinema and television. Early career Roger graduated from the Swinburne Film and TV School, now the University of Melbourne Faculty of VCA and MCM, in 1971 and worked at Fred Schepisi’s Film House in Melbourne. Robert Scholes (December 5, 1866 – October 23, 1929) was an American politician and lawyer. Born in Peoria, Illinois, Scholes was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1899 and then practiced law in Peoria. Robert Scholes
Robert E. Scholes (1929 – December 9, 2016) was an American literary critic and theorist. He is known for his ideas on fabulation and metafiction. Education and career Robert Scholes was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1929. After taking his A.B. at Yale University in 1950, he served as a gunnery officer in the U. S. Navy from 1952-1955. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1959, and he taught at the University of Virginia and the University of Iowa, before joining the Brown faculty in the Departments of English and Comparative Literature in 1970. After his retirement from full-time teaching in 1999, Professor Scholes was appointed Research Professor of Modern Culture and Media. With Eric S. Percy Alfred Scholes PhD OBE (24 July 1877 – 31 July 1958) (pronounced ''skolz'') was an English musician, journalist and prolific writer, whose best-known achievement was his compilation of the first edition of ''The Oxford Companion to Music''. Paul Scholes (born 16 November 1974) is an English football coach, pundit, former player, and co-owner of Salford City. He spent his entire professional playing career with Manchester United, for whom he scored over 150 goals in more than 700 appearances between 1993 and 2013. He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation and one of the greatest Manchester United players of all time. Malcolm Scholes
Wing Commander Malcolm Scholes (17 October 1924 – 11 November 2008) was a British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot most notable for completing two tours of operations in World War II with Bomber Command's Pathfinder Force whilst still a teenager. Scholes was educated at Wakefield Technical College. He joined the RAF on his 18th birthday. He completed 54 missions with Bomber Command during the Second World War, which saw his aircraft hit by flak 11 times. His citation for the DFM stated that he had "set an example of tenacity and enthusiasm to the rest of the squadron". After World War II ended he was stationed in Palestine, and was appointed MBE in 1948 for "his distinguished service and his devotion to duty which has been far above the normal requirements of the service". Ken Scholes (born January 13, 1968) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer living in Cornelius, Oregon, United States. He is the author of five novels and over fifty short stories and his work has appeared in print since 2000. His series, '' The Psalms of Isaak'', is published by Tor Books and his short fiction has been collected in three volumes published by Fairwood Press.
