Scholastic Art And Writing Awards
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is a nonprofit organization which manages the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a competition which recognizes talented young artists and writers from across the United States. Scholastic Art & Writing Awards The competition begins at a regional level, with students receiving a variety of regional awards. The submissions which receive "Gold Key" awards are then judged at the national level. History In 1923, Maurice R. Robinson, of Scholastic Corporation established the Scholastic Awards. In 1994, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers was established to administer the Awards. Scholarships Exceptional artwork and literature submitted to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are awarded scholarships. Scholarships usually include monetary prizes as well as free or reduced-tuition art and writing programs. Richard Joseph Anuszkiewicz (; May 23, 1930 – May 19, 2020) was an American painting, painter, printmaking, printmaker, and sculpture, sculptor. Michael Bierut (born 1957) is a graphic designer, design critic and educator, who has been a partner at design firm Pentagram since 1990. Ned Vizzini
Edison Price Vizzini (April 4, 1981 – December 19, 2013) was an American writer. He was the author of four books for young adults including ''It's Kind of a Funny Story'', which NPR named #56 of the "100 Best-Ever Teen Novels" and which is the basis of the film of the same name. Vizzini had depression, spending time in a psychiatric ward in his early 20s, and authoring several works about the illness. He was found dead in his native Brooklyn, New York after an apparent suicide from a fall, aged 32. Early life Vizzini grew up primarily in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. Carolyn Forché (born April 28, 1950) is an American poet, editor, professor, translator, and human rights advocate. She has received many awards for her literary work. Donald Lipski
Donald Lipski (born May 21, 1947) is an American sculptor best known for his installation work and large-scale public works. Early life and education Donald Lipski was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947. He was raised in the northern suburb of Highland Park, the son and grandson of bicycle dealers. Although his first welded sculptures as a teen won him The Scholastic Art Award in high school, he was a history major and anti-war activist at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning a B.A. in American History in 1970. Edwidge Danticat (; born January 19, 1969) is a Haitian-American novelist and short story writer. Her first novel, ''Breath, Eyes, Memory'', was published in 1994 and went on to become an Oprah's Book Club selection. Danticat has since written or edited several books and has been the recipient of many awards and honors. Early life Danticat was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. When she was twelve years old, her father André immigrated to New York, to be followed two years later by her mother Rose.
