Schmitten im Taunus (until 25 August 2021 ''Schmitten'') is a municipality in the Hochtaunuskreis in Hessen, Germany. Geography Schmitten is the highest community in the Taunus, approximately 24km north of Frankfurt am Main, within which is the ''Großer Feldberg'' (881m). Neighbouring communities Schmitten borders in the north on the community of Weilrod and the town of Usingen, in the east on the towns of Neu-Anspach and Bad Homburg, in the south on the towns of Oberursel and Königstein, and in the west on the communities of Glashütten and Waldems (Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis). Constituent communities The greater community has nine centres (until municipal reform in 1972, all independent communities) named Arnoldshain, Brombach, Dorfweil, Hunoldstal, Niederreifenberg, Oberreifenberg, Schmitten, Seelenberg and Treisberg. Schmitten is a municipality in the district of Sense in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is one of the municipalities with a large majority of German speakers in the mostly French speaking Canton of Fribourg. History Schmitten is first mentioned in 1242 as ''Schmitton''. In the 14th century, the name ''Der Schmitten'' was common. Because the chapel of Schmitten was consecrated to Saint Otmar, for a period the town was also called ''Othmarswil'', first mentioned in 1379. The Earl of Thierstein ruled Schmitten in medieval times. In the 15th century, Schmitten came under the authority of Fribourg, where it was subordinated under the "Old Landscape" (Aupanner). After the breakdown of the Ancien Régime (1798), Schmitten belonged to the District of Fribourg and after 1831 to the Germanspeaking District Freiburg, bevor it was integrated into the District of Singine (Sensebezirk) with the new constitution of the canton. Schmitten Discgolf Parcours
Schmitten Discgolf Parcours is a seasonal 18-hole disc golf course located in Zell am See, Austria. The course is set on a ski slope and progresses downhill. The first hole is above sea level and the last hole is lower. Established on 15 June 2009, it was the first disc golf course in Austria and the 3,000th course to be added to the PDGA Course Directory. It is open for free to players who purchased a valid cable car ticket. Course details Most holes on Schmitten Discgolf Parcours are set on an open field, except hole 9. The course sports cyan tee pads made out of rubber and twenty Discmania DISCatcher baskets. There is a practice basket before hole 1 and a second one after hole 18. The course layout has been redesigned since its inception and a new map was published in 2018.
